So, we decided if ESPN can do it, we can do it better. And it turns out that the real reason ESPN took its name off of the Coaches poll was fear of the new BP poll. OK, maybe not. Anyway, we did decide to have a poll. Like every other poll, we’ll rank teams weekly from here on out (with a break between this preseason poll and the first week of games). As you can easily see – since USC is the consensus #1 – there are 24 pollsters. These pollsters were selected from a not very random cross section of BP regulars.

Points are awarded on a decreasing basis, that is 25 for a First Place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a 25th Place vote. Then, teams are ranked according to their total points. Those receiving votes are ranked in the same fashion, so the team listed first is essentially Twenty-sixth. The number of number 1 votes are in parentheses. We’ll also list where a team was rated the week before, although this being the first poll, there isn’t such a column now.

In the future this poll will appear on a side panel of the front page, so as not to take attention away from real blogs. All the voters are taking care to put out a quality poll, and not just a fan site homer poll. Be sure to check it out, hope you enjoy.

My pollster check bounced... what kind of operation are you running bkb??? (for a small fee I have no problem making my ballot open to the &quot:wink2:ublic")

seriously good job... I hope we are all willing to dramatically change our poll after a couple of weeks. IMO preseason polls are only on hype. We'll see who the real players are after a couple of weeks into the season...

who gave MN enough points to get into the top 25?

I have no problem with making mine public... I have nothing to hide.

Overall it looks pretty good.. seems to get interesting after the top 15.

Great job by everyone who got this rolling.

I'm glad to see that most of you are willing to make your picks public. That makes it much easier for me to ridicule your picks publicly. I'll wait for the second poll though. No reason to get all ridiculy in the preseason.
