ORIGINAL POST 11.20.22

Hello, Buckeye Planet members!

Buckeye Planet is getting a new coat of paint, and you’re not going to be asked to pay a dime.

Meet your new sponsor, Plum Diamonds. We’re going to make a few site upgrades in early 2023 and then keep the lights on. You just keep being you.

Plus, a bonus: here's priority access to a reputable, high-quality jeweler. From now on, whether you need fine jewelry or just need your jewelry questions answered, “you gotta guy.”

The BP + Plum Connection

Plum Diamonds crafts premium, made-to-order lab grown diamond rings. We're an online jeweler with a long history in custom jewelry production and our own certified-sustainable manufacturer.

Hi, my name is Kristy aka @diamondgirl, and I’m with Plum.

You might be asking, why is a diamond ring company sponsoring a sports fan forum? I admit it’s not because I know much about sports myself.

The connection between Buckeye Planet and Plum Diamonds was made by longtime BP member, Ohio State alum, former college player, Ohio native, and all-around OSU super fan @heisman.

@heisman 's got a passion for OSU sports and an interest in jewelry, so viola! Here we are. In his own words, “I’m incredibly grateful to be a small part of the BP community and tremendously excited to make a much larger contribution to it moving forward.”

Although I can’t wax poetic about college sports, I do care very much that a rich community like Buckeye Planet stays intact and thrives. Plum Diamonds is going to ensure that this is exactly what happens.

You’ll never be asked to pay or donate, and soon you’ll see some site updates and social media that I hope you’re going to love.

What else can we give you?

@heisman and I are going to make sure that BP-connected clients always get VIP service, deals, direct access to a trusted jeweler, and more.

Check this thread for BP-exclusive deals including a special Black Friday promo.

We know what we're doing. (I mean, not @heisman, he doesn't actually know how to make jewelry. But the rest of the team knocks it outta the park!)

If you ever have questions or need help, reach out to me directly here or at [email protected].

I can’t wait to get to know and support this amazing community. The best virtual sports bar in the galaxy.

About Lab Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds are physically and chemically the same as mined (aka natural) diamonds.

There are 2 main differences between mined diamonds and lab diamonds: place and price.

Place because mined diamonds were created deep within the earth and require harmful excavation to extract. Lab diamonds are created by scientists.

Price because mined diamonds are priced 3-5x higher than lab diamonds.

Hey guys I have meant to come on here to give a recommendation for Plum but I was hospitalized and just getting around to it. My wife and I had our 40th wedding anniversary in August and I surprised her with a tennis bracelet. It was and still is a big hit and the Plum team came through again and went beyond the call of duty. Guys if you want to be a hero I would head over to the Plum web site……

Just wanted to let everyone know that we’ll be closing up shop in the next week or two. Really enjoyed and appreciated all the interactions I had over the years. Wanted to give everyone a little bit of time to communicate contact information to anyone with whom they were close. Let me know if you need anything. Take care!

What is closing down Plum Diamonds or Buckeye Planet or both?
Thank you for being a Plum customer, and supporting the site. It means a lot to me and the team. Plum is thriving and continues to grow at an unexpected rate. In terms of the site, the team really wanted to pull the sponsorship last year. I considered it, but thought I could come up with an idea that would provide a very specific product that would excite the members/users.

So, I came up with the idea of the replica gold pants. 1. A very attractive price. 2. Probably the best gift you could give your favorite Buckeye fan. 3. Half the profits went to OSU NIL. So, we put the ad up for 6 months on the site, but didn’t sell a single pair.

You know what’s crazy? We put the ad up on IG and TikTok and sold hundreds in a couple of weeks. I also sent 4 pair to my 4 best Buckeye friends and they went bat shit crazy when I delivered them. So, this validated the idea, but unfortunately, made me realize that we certainly shouldn’t be financially supporting the site any longer. We’ve easily invested over $100k in the 3-4 years of sponsorship, which just isn’t practical to continue without widespread support.

Plum wasn’t just some dumb ad on the site. It was the sponsor. Sponsorship requires a symbiotic relationship. I remember getting bar and restaurant sponsors for our basketball and softball teams. They would buy our uniforms and pay our league fees, and we’d patronize the bar or restaurant after every single game. Anyway, if everyone on the site just patronized the sponsor (like you have) just once or twice a decade, we’d be fine. Unfortunately, it never materialized.

I’m heartbroken, but I’ve probably kept it going for longer than I rationally should have. Incredibly saddened that the sponsorship had to end this way.

Yeah, but think about the tax deduction you’re going to lose!

But seriously, thanks for stepping up and giving us all some extra years here we wouldn’t have had otherwise. I’m sorry it didn’t work out the way you hoped.

Thank you, @heisman and all BPers. I don't regret one second of time that I've spent with you all since 2005.
I regret watching @Fungo Squiggly drink that pink drink, but otherwise, the sentiment lands.
