You're right that there aren't tiebreakers and bowls choose who they want. Unless the conference tie-in stipulates otherwise: such as Big Ten #3 or #4. In the majority of scenarios, Ohio State will be in San Antonio. Which may work out for me. I think I'll be in Dallas during that week.

My understand is that the "conference tiebreakers" only apply to who is going to represent the Big 10 as conference champion in the BCS (Rose or if Orange, then Rose chooses ANYBODY in he country). After that, the other bowls get to pick any bowl elegable team they want in the conference. Captial One having #2 Big 10 mean that they just get the 2nd pick. I think if the REALLY REALLY wanted to, they could take the #7 Big 10 team if they were bowl elegable. I don't think they'd do this though. But if Iowa goes 8-3, 6-2...and Ohio State goes 8-3, 5-3...I think the Outback Bowl may take Ohio State, because of $$$$$$. Ohio State sells out there tickets...Iowa doesn't. I think if we go 8-3 it will be hard for us not to make a new years day bowl. Unless i'm totally wrong here and conference tiebreakers apply...but I think after the BCS they just pick who they want...and the better bowls pick first. If anybody knows 100% for sure that i'm wrong...please let me know, because i'm not 100% sure.

I think you're right, because I thought I heard last year that one of the bowls had the #4 or so Big Ten team as a tie-in but planned on taking the team below it.

The more I think about it, even if we win out we may get the Alamo. Iowa fans would travel well to the Florida bowls and they may get the nod due to the frequency we have been there. OSU's always better for the TV ratings though:cool:

I thought it was because we had 2 teams in the BCS bowls last year, so everyone else moved up a spot.

my biased opinion is that the alamo bowl would be more fun.....never been there....primetime national tv audience......chance as a viewer to make an event out of it....

as opposed the outbacks 10:30 am start time on jan 1....im not one for eggs and beer...plus, the money isnt all that much different either after the bigten gets their hands on it....

Add in the fact we get to play a Big XII team which we rarely play. One projection has Oklahoma State there. A more fun game.

Plus didn't realize how early the Outback Bowl is this year... I barely get up by noon on New Years Day!

I've been to San Antonio, the Alamo is like blah but Riverwalk is nice. I wouldn't mind going back for the Alamo Bowl. That would be a great game with Oklahoma State--a team we have played one other time and won 37-13 in Columbus (1989).

Going Bowling

I'd decided before the season began that my plan was to go to whatever bowl game we end up in. Of course, I was thinking Florida, California, Tempe, Nawlins... :wink: Now that we're getting down to it, what's the general consensus on where we're headed? As far as I can tell, there are four possibilites: Alamo, Sun, Music City and Motor City.

I'm not too into Detroit, but any of the other three would be fine in terms of getting out of state for a little vacation time.

So where am I spending NYE? :)
