August 02, 2004
</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="4" class="newstory" align="left">It didn’t take long for emotions to flare up at Baptist Sports Park, as rookie free agent Bryce Bishop of Ohio State got into scuffles on back-to-back plays at the end of the Sunday morning’s first padded practice for the linemen.

Bishop, a guard from Ohio State, got into a shoving match first with fellow rookie Jared Clauss, who wisely walked away after Bishop landed a punch during the fracas.

On the next play, Bishop got into it with linebacker/long snapper Ken Amato during a brief scrap.

Both times, Bishop said it was in retaliation.

“If you back down, then you’re not competing,” Bishop said of the altercations. He [Clauss] gave me a punch, and I just retaliated. But it’s all part of practice and we leave it all on the field.”

As for the next round with Amato, Bishop replied, “I just retaliated. They hit a hot spot.”

As for Clauss walking away, Fisher was asked if it had anything to do with the 45 he scored on the Wonderlic test at the NFL Combine.

“Yes, you can credit that to the Wonderlic and the fine schedule,” Fisher said.

.... regardless of whether bishop was being too ornery or not, I saw the video clips on local news, and both amato and clauss ended up on their asses. Maybe being one of the few senior starters that went undrafted lit a fire under Bishop?

Scratch the "buck"

Too bad nobody could light a fire under him while he was here. He was by far the worst offensive lineman on the roster. He stunk at OSU. What a waste.
And you have the word "buck" in your handle?? Sure is easy to sit behind a computer screen and throw insults at a guy you wouldn't dare say to his face. It's said to see a so-called fan trash a former member of our football team because he never lived up to his billing by the so-called recruiting gurus. The kid basically started in 3 different years for tOSU and helped contribute to the NC. Geez.

Hey pants, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. I guess you're one of those guys who feels that anyone who says anything negative about OSU is not a true fan. Whatever.

This is a kid who very obviously has the talent to be a fantastic O lineman. He wasn't motivated while at OSU. He was skating. Gamble skated last season as well. He admitted it and I think he should have taken more lumps than he did. When Bryce didn't get drafted he figured he better get to work, he's working hard now and it's showing. He's having a great camp.

Compared to what others have said about the OSU O line last year, I think what I said was pretty harmless. They did not perform well. Some guy named Tressel said basically the same thing last week. There were players on the line who played great, but two or three O linemen performing will get an offense killed. It showed last season.

Dude-chill out. If a comment is directed specifically at a player's abilities-guess what-we can critique it. We critique our politicians all the time-it's called elections. Bishop was a 1st Team USA Today All-American-I don't think it is unreasonable to say he underrachieved in his career. I wish him the best in the NFL. If you are a newbie around here-watch what goes on before you jump people's shit.

Well, since I am the one that brought Bryce to OSU, I guess I should get the blame right?

Maybe Ronnie won't work out too....

I know a lot about OL. Bryce did get a little lazy. However, he ended up in Tressels, not Bollman's dog house.

IMO, he got screwed by staff. I guess we will see how he does on Sundays.

HH, you tell most of a story without providing the conclusion. How did he get in the doghouse and why do you think he got screwed by the staff? Elaborate bro

Apologies to Helpinghand

HH,

I never should have replied to the any of the above posts.

I apologize to you for badmouthing one of your guys. I sometimes forget how hard it would be to read these boards and have someone you know and care a great deal about get beaten up in a post (actually, some of my friends have gotten beaten up on other boards, but not this one).

It's too bad that Bryce didn't have a stellar career at OSU, hopefully he will excel at the next level. I always root for any Buckeye to make it.
