Just had that shit happen to me just now. I went to the Pryor thread and a Circuit City pop-up video appeared in the upper right hand corner (screencap #1 below). After closing the pop-up and going into MS Paint to save the screencap a completely different window tried to open up and I got a Vista alert asking me if I wanted to install the latest version of Adobe reader. When I went back to the Pryor page, it had totally locked up (couldn't scroll or even close the browser by clicking the X button) and I had to use Task Manager to close it. I did get a second screen cap before closing the browser. IP 85.12.43.127 was a culprit...

Check out the shit I justy got hit with after leaving Beanie's thread to go back to the main forum (see lower right corner):

I believe that I had that hit me a couple of days ago as well.

Deety - If it is the same that hit me, the lower right corner is an announcement from Norton stating that it had successfully prevented an attack on the computer. At least that is what I saw a couple of days ago before I left for my Tour de Ohio for Christmas.

Mili, do you have larger screenshots? Text is pretty small.

I had to reduce the originals to meet the upload retrictions for attachments. Maybe if I just put them directly in a post they'll be easier to read:

I don't really know what this is supposed to mean. I'm a little confused in regards to how a website like this can screw up one's computer.

There's a question about a download that a few people have been exposed to. The file in question may simply have an improper MIME type (I might be stating that improperly) which is to say that something as simple as a normal image might not be properly interpreted by a browser, which then assumes that it's a file for direct transfer (rather than just to your browser cache).

Now, there certainly was some bad ad code that was locking people's browsers up. No question there. It seems to be mostly resolved already, and I'm still working with SportsWar to make sure it's squashed entirely. No one is more frustrated or angry about ads interfering with normal use and operation here than I.

But to say that BP has screwed up two computers -- you have to qualify that, because it's inflammatory while being too vague to be even remotely helpful. How exactly did it screw them up?

--edit--
The original post above reads with hostility towards fourteen, and that's absolutely not what I intended. Profuse apologies there. I am absolutely frustrated, but it's with the situation, and how difficult it is to diagnose these issues, NOT with anything people are doing and saying here. Each post in this thread helps me get closer to the problem, whatever the problem may be, and thus closer to a solution. The only thing I want to keep nailing home is that the more detail we get, the better. Saying that something is broken is well and good, describing how it acted that led you to believe or understood that it was broken is helpful.

I make no assumptions about this situation, and rule nothing out. There's no such thing as unnecessary or undesired feedback in a thread like this. Please keep it coming, and when my blood vessels start popping out of my neck and scalp, please understand that it's because I hate that we have to spend any time on this. None of us should ever have to talk or think about the ads in a technical or troubleshooting/problem-reporting capacity.
