Agreed.

I'm just saying that if he didn't throw a couple of those picks this year, Shanahan is being praised instead of fired. Cutler is the main reason they were even in contention.

It'll be interesting to see how Jay progresses without Shanahan. Maybe Shanahan will go to Cleveland and Cutler will demand a trade. :tongue2:

If I'm the Browns I call right now and have him bring his OL coach.

Well, considering how vindictive Shanahan is, I could see him sitting back and seeing if the KC job is going to open up. The guy has made a career out of making the Raiders regret firing him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to stay in the AFC West. Hell, I would be happy if the Bolts canned Norv and hired him but I don't expect that will happen, considering that over the past 6 years the Chargers/Donks rivalry has gotten pretty heated.

It depends if they are willing to offer him close to the amount they were rumored to offer Cower. With the right coaching and a good draft the Browns have the type of talent to run a Shanahan offense.

ProFootballTalk.com - SHANAHAN HAS SOMETHING UP HIS SLEEVE?

The immediate speculation in some league circles when word broke of the termination of long-time Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is that Shanahan has something else cooking, and that he forced his firing by refusing to agree to changes that owner Pat Bowlen wants to make.

According to Jeff Legwold of the Rocky Mountain News, part of that speculation is right on the money.

Per Legwold, Shanahan was fired because he refused to fire defensive coordinator Bob Slowik, whose unit surrendered 52 points in a Week Seventeen loss to the Chargers.

Said Bowlen, in a release issued by the team: ?After giving this careful consideration, I have concluded that a change in our football operations is in the best interests of the Denver Broncos. This is certainly a difficult decision, but one that I feel must be made and which will ultimately be in the best interests of all concerned.

?I appreciate the 21 years that Mike Shanahan has given to the organization as an assistant and head coach, and the two Super Bowl wins in that time. His contributions hold a special place in Broncos history.?

So if Shanahan wanted to get out of town because he has something else cooking, what might it be?

Believe it or not, there?s speculation that Shanahan is trying to position himself for the Chargers job.

What?s that, you say? The Chargers are in the playoffs and they?ve made it clear that Norv Turner is coming back as head coach?

That was our reaction, too. But a highly-placed league source suspects that something is happening with Shanahan and San Diego.

In our book, it?s almost as unlikely as Shanahan coaching the Raiders. But we?ll continue to keep our eyes peeled on this one.

Ironically, Ted Sundquist is a contributor to ProFootballTalk.com.

Agreed. I doubt Shanahan wants Cowher $, but Lerner should open up the checkbook if Shanahan even looks in the Browns direction.

The Browns are in much better shape than the past two coaching changes. Shanahan is just the kind of coach to help BQ develop into a good NFL QB. There are solid pieces on the OL, I think they just need a good coach. Jamal and Harrison could thrive in Shanahan's offense. On defense, the DL is better than it's been since the rebirth, I think injuries and the offense's inability to keep them off the field hurt. Upgrades are needed at LB, but the draft and FA could help there. The secondary needs a lot of help, but I think Wright is a keeper. Just need to plug a good corner in next to him (MJ please). Overall, there is enough talent in place that with a few upgrades I think the right coach can win in fairly short order. They just quit on Romeo and his weak ass staff.
