Watson, Crick & A Twist
This fellow should keep abreast of current affairs - not merely to avoid looking like a fool, but also because it is a prerequisite of his position as a State Representative.

Tim Brinkman disses Student Athletes - I guarantee you this is not going to win him ANY votes.

Guess we can play a game of deciding which usename Brinkman uses on BN. He seems like he would fit in there perfectly.

<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 /><ST1:PLACE><ST1:PLACENAME>Ohio</ST1:PLACENAME><ST1:PLACETYPE>State</ST1:PLACETYPE><ST1:PLACETYPE>University</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE> student athletes got dumped on by a state lawmaker. And now the university is coming to their defense. <O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Out of nowhere, student-athletes found themselves the targets of Representative Tom Brinkman of <ST1:CITY><ST1:PLACE>Cincinnati</ST1:PLACE></ST1:CITY>.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
While discussing how tougher academic standards could hurt schools like <ST1:PLACE><ST1:PLACENAME>Ohio</ST1:PLACENAME><ST1:PLACETYPE>State</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE>, Rep. Brinkman said, "Be careful what you wish for because sports teams like <ST1:PLACE><ST1:PLACENAME>Ohio</ST1:PLACENAME><ST1:PLACETYPE>State</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE>’s... are filled with dummies."<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
It was a remark that <ST1:PLACE><ST1:PLACENAME>Ohio</ST1:PLACENAME><ST1:PLACETYPE>State</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE> athletic director Gene Smith did not appreciate.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
"It's very disappointing. It further stereotypes student athletes," Smith said.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Smith also said that Brinkman is “misinformed.”<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
According to Smith, 56 members of the football team carry a grade point average 3.0 or higher, and just under 60 percent of all student athletes graduate in 6 years or less.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
"Our student-athletes graduate at a higher rate than the rest of general student population," said Smith.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Brinkman went on to say that athletes at <ST1:PLACE><ST1:PLACENAME>Ohio</ST1:PLACENAME><ST1:PLACETYPE>State</ST1:PLACETYPE></ST1:PLACE> are not solid academic material.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Brinkman was quoted in the Cleveland Plain Dealer saying he did not intend to insult athletes, but wanted to point out that tougher academic standards will damage sports programs.<O:P></O:P>
<O:P></O:P>
Brinkman did not return calls from 10TV for comment.

And I'm sure the dozen or so recruits we've had to pass on due to academics that just jumped in and enrolled elsewhere are a testament to our reduced standards and poor GPA, huh?

What a moron and an asshole. Sounds to me like he go turned down by Ohio State and he's pissed about it.

Sheesh! It's really hard to figure the context for a statement like this. Just what is the issue he's attempting to address, and what is the point he's trying to make?

And I thought we had some dumb legislators here in North Carolina!

This article is meant to rile up Buckeye fans.

It looks like the quote was 'teams at Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati are filled with", but the article dropped Cincinnati, replacing it with '...'.

Check the quote over the picture in the corner. The guy's a moron, but he wasn't isolating tOSU, as the edited quote makes it appear.

But I wouldn't vote for him. :wink2:

Doesn't matter to me that he was talking of both the Buckeyes and the Bearcats - that just means he cast his net wider, rather than singling out Ohio State.

Still, the fellow is an Ass, a tool, a moron. He is wrong about Ohio State, and based on all the hand-wringing about UC and Zimfer he is referring to the past for that school also.
