So, you're essentially sayin' that Dear Ol' Notruh Dahm has placed itself in a position where a couple of clowns--who should be wearing orange jumpsuits because of their blatant role in negligent manslaughter--are in a position to bend Dear Ol' Notruh Dahm over the alter like a choir boy fed a little too much sacramental wine so as to be pumped for everything Dear Ol' Notruh Dahm is worth because the one won a bunch of football games and the other managed to say [censored] you to the Big Ten for about five weeks before the Big Ten destroyed his safe harbour.

Now, tell me again how Dear Ol' Notruh Dahm is so much better than the rest of college football.

Yeah, more or less thats what I'm saying, but you say it so eloquently! :) I forgot the part where I said Notre Dame was better than the rest of college football though. I don't think Notre Dame is any better than the rest of college football. I do think it's a great university, and they just enjoyed a pretty good season which is a departure from the norm. I don't think there are that many jobs that are more desirable in college football, at least I don't think ND is viewed as a stepping stone. I feel the same way about OSU. I think there are some college football jobs that are at or above the NFL. May sound laughable given Notre Dame's mediocrity, but I go with history on this one. Going back to Leahy in the 40s there has only been one coach that ever left from ND on his own terms to go straight to the NFL or what would be considered a better job, and that seat was pretty hot. Everyone else was fired, or retired/died/stepped down for medical reasons. Crazy expectations and bad weather aside, it must not be a horrible place to be.

Coaches have used the NFL thing in the past, Notre Dame is no different there, so I'm not surprised. Kelly probably figured he needed some leverage on the new deal they're working out given his team was taken to the woodshed by Alabama, that probably didn't help his negotiating. The only thing I have a problem with is the timing. With EE's coming in 3 days it puts a lot of questions in their heads and could very well hurt the recruiting. Kelly probably knew this, I'm sure it will do more to expedite the deal.

Destroyed his safe harbor? When did the Big Ten destroy the ACC? I'm still waiting on the implosion. Yeah, I know theres smoke and rumors, and once the Maryland exit fee litigation is squared away theres going to be this mass exodus, but to date the ACC has traded Maryland for Louisville. From a football standpoint, the Florida Gators say thats an upgrade. Even if the ACC someday crumbles, what are the chances Notre Dame doesn't land on it's feet? Conference realignment doesn't really worry me when it comes to Notre Dame. They'll do whats best for them as they always have, and they'll be fine in the end.

Notre Dame: ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Philadelphia Eagles have interviewed Brian Kelly for their head coaching position. CBS Sports reporter Jason La Canfora reports the Chicago Bears also have expressed interest.

Please let this happen. Brian Kelly with Jay Cutler would be great television. And I'm not talking about on the field stuff.

fairly certain Kelly (and more likely, his agent) are feigning interest in the NFL to coax a raise out of ND.

However, I do wonder on some level if Kelly is completely happy at ND. The first two seasons there, he entertained all of us with his purple-faced, profanity-laced sideline rants. This year seemed to be the year of kinder, gentler Brian Kelly. I don't remember him being nearly as animated toward his players or officials. I wonder if some of the administration and/or wealthy boosters of ND "suggested" to Coach Kelly that he tone it down during games? If true, I wonder how well that might be sitting with Kelly?

The pressure to win at a big time college football program can bring out the worse in coaches. Winning cures a lot of things. Next year if his QB starts throwing interceptions that cost ND a game with Purple Face Kelly come out again?

I don't watch ND on NBC at all. Have they decided to not show his berating of his QBs to improve their coach's image?

Don't be so sure.
Before getting the tOSU job, Meyer was quoted as saying his "dream job would be Notre Dame."

Link?

Here is his daughter's take...

Ozone: How long do you feel your dad will coach at OSU and was Notre Dame ever your dad?s "dream job" or was Ohio State the job he always wanted?

Nicki: He will coach until he is ready to retire and be with us. That?s all I know. I have not heard him speak one word of Notre Dame. Ohio State is his dream job and he feels extremely blessed to be there. All I know is that he is going to go as hard as he can at Ohio State until he is ready to close the coaching chapter of his life.

Lyin' Brian at it again. No surprise here for those of us from Cincinnati.

Meh, to be fair it's not at all the same situation.

Cincinnati is always a stepping stone job, every job he's had leading up to ND has been a stepping stone job. He's climbed the steps quickly because he's had success, leaving ND for Philly would be a different type of decision imo. Don't see it happening even if it would be hilarious.
