Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

I like what he has done at Temple and I believe he has a high ceiling as a coach. I think UC should give him a look. But the problem I see with Golden is that I think he winds up as another Dantonio/Kelly and is gone after three years. The three that I want have the potential, in my opinion, to be here longer than that (5 years?) and have success somewhere between Dantonio and Kelly (8-4, 9-3 type seasons). If UC is going to expand Nippert they need a head coach who will see them through. I though kelly would be that guy. Oh, well.

That's the catch-22 isn't it? Cincy fans want to believe that they are making investments that will take them to the next level. Hate to break the news, but the pool of CFB money is exploding and everybody is making those kind of investments. If UC takes a big drop in the standings next year - and a look at their depth chart almost guarantees that they will - the fans quit coming and that investment begins to look questionable.

Outside of TV revenue the driving force is alumni contributions. Cases like Oregon and Oklahoma State are fairly unique. Is there a Cincy sugar daddy with that kind of cash who cares that much about their athletics? And if Cincy did start to make a serious threat to share the power in Ohio there are some big pocketbooks that can open up to counter it. Maybe we can put a dome over the Shoe and use that as a practice facility while we build a new mega-stadium where the Capitol building is now. The buyout of CW should give a hint as to how far motivated alumni dollars can stretch.

I don't see Cincy playing host to a top tier coach for longer than it takes him to update his resume.

I wouldn't, Luke Fickell is the coordinator that I would really hate to part with at this point in time

I would hate to part with him as well, but it would be good for Luke to get a head coaching gig. Like someone stated previously....we can always call him back home when we need him.

No, UC is not blessed with at sugar daddy or sugar daddies as is the case with most top level schools. The Linder family is about as close as it gest along with corporate partnerships with P&G. This is why UC will always be a basketball school. Its cheaper to run. :)

however I do believe the upgrades that are being made are to make UC competitive in conference. UC fans may believe it is to compete with the big boys but that's just not the case. No, UC will not likely retain a top level coach but I do believe they will continue to attract them. UC may still just be a stepping stone, but its a stepping stone in a BCS conference and these last two years have shown that UC can win the conference. If a coach is here long enough to make his mark, advance the program and keep it going in the right direction, eventually, there will be a coach who stays and wins.
I'm pretty sure that's how a program gets built...and, as I recall, before Woody Hayes, OSU was known as a graveyard for coaches.
the point being...keep it going forward. That's all they can try to do.

all I can do is just shake my head at those idiots. I get better UC news and more intelligent discussion on an OHIO STATE board than I could ever find elsewhere. unreal..

Sumlin from Houston would be my number 1 choice to replace BK (sorry Bucky Katt..)...after that, I'd go for the current UC OC (Jeff Quinn) though he will likely keep up his 26 year tradition of riding BK's coat tails and head off to ND...my 3rd choice would be the man Kelly groomed to replace him at CMU, Butch Jones.

If UC is to try to remain at the level Kelly and Dantonio pushed them to...it has to be one of these three, in my opinion.

I like your thoughts on potential coaches....Butch Jones would be my #1 if I were a Cincy fan.

Some additional guys I'd test the waters with....June Jones and Dvaid Cutcliffe. Not sure either would leave their current gig, especially Cutcliffe at Duke, but I think both would be good fits at UC.

Sumlin sounds like a solid choice.

The whole philosophy of having a strong offensive minded coach, doesn't automatically mean the defense has to suck. Just as Kelly going to Notre Dame doesn't mean ND's defense will suck for years, neither does it mean UC's will if they go offensive. Just a quick ramble on that....it isn't as if Urban Meyer rolled into Gainesville as an offensive genius and ignored defense. You need the right coordinator in place, and you need an eye for talent on that side of the ball.

Something Weis didn't have.

Perhaps they need someone like Solich at OU. An older coach who has had his shot and now just wants to continue working till retirement, but knows how to run a winning program.

The Linder's can't possibly be involved in UC athletics. UC athletics are actually having some success.
