Agreed. The timing seemed odd. The Pack is back in contention, has some good young recievers, a good young RB and a good D. It was obvious he could still play at a high level.

That said, after years of rumors and innuendo, if you actually announce your retirement...fucking stick with it. Don't put your former team in that awkward position of having to tell you they've moved on, and don't go to another team and end up on a shit team clinging to glory.

I agree. Seconds thoughts or not, he made a decision and the team based its actions on it. The Packers drafted two QBs in April, just in case Rodgers can't handle the job.

Favre in another uni would be odd, not to mention kinda shitty to do to the Packers. The Bears could sure use a QB. Could you imagine if he ended up there, of all places? Packers fans would go apeshit.

Well, apparently he's asking to be released now. Kind of a dick move if you ask me after all the indecision he's subjected the Packers to.

I hope he lands with the Bears, and then they STILL start Rex Grossman anyway.

Listen....he is a hall of fame QB.....had a great season last year.....one win away from the Super Bowl........they have two unproven QBs on their roster......I don't understand why they (GB organization) would not want the best possible chance to win......Rodgers has never started a game.......I understand they have prepared for the future but Favre can still get it done.

Think JoPa writes his own checks too? Things looking up there in Happy Valley? How'd they do in 2006 after their 2005 swan song?

I hope the Pack takes him back, Farve plays the 30 to 10 INT to TD ratio ball he played before last year's anomaly and people use him as a poster boy for retiring and staying fucking retired. He's held that organization hostage for.... what 5 years now?

Fuck Brett Farve. This aint 1994.

Right.....the organization was "held hostage"...........give me a break......that is a joke.......for the past 15 years they have consistently been in the playoffs.....but he is holding them hostage......I hope GB trades him and he gets a chance to stick it to them this year......that would be a great story.

The NFL is about winning.....

What do you call it when a single player, for several years, cant decide if he's going to play or retire making it so that the organization can't solidify the position that single player plays? Pick your word and put it in for "hostage" then. He did this shit for years, finally saying "I'm done." Finally, no more having to deal with his bullshit offseason saga... and the Pack moves forward..... only to hear him start shit about wanting to come back again? Man, fuck him. Brett, if you don't want to do OTAs just fucking say that.

For the last 3 years, they've consistently NOT been in the playoffs (1 of 3 seasons). Who cares?

The NFL is about winning NOW, not 15 years ago.

The Pack would be foolish to just release him, no matter how tired they are of him jerking them around. Make someone trade for his rights, and keep him out of the NFC so he can't ruin things for you...like he could in Minnesota, for example.

Packers GM, coach say Favre can return to team as Rodgers' backup

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers' general manager and coach don't plan to grant Brett Favre's request for his release. If he does rejoin the team, they told The Associated Press, it won't be as the starting quarterback.
And Favre is unlikely to accept a backup role, GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Saturday in their first public comments since the 38-year-old Favre demanded his release this week.

Yeah right, the guy made $11M last year. He still has to be under contract with the Packers or he would be a free agent. My guess his 2008 salary would be more than the $11M he made in 2007. Anyone believe that the packers are going to pay someone over $11M to sit on the bench all year? Farve should call their bluff and they will end up trading him to a team of his choice.

Note: If he makes it clear that he will only play for "team X" no other team will offer anything for him. Farve has the Packers over a barrel and I'm sure his agent knows it.

:slappy:

Edit: Favre, who was placed on the reserve-retired list in late April, has three years and $39 million left on his contract with the Packers.

I think Farve is going to do quite a bit of damage to his legacy with this one. Also, how much of an impact could he POSSIBLY make if he goes to a new team with only 6 weeks before the season starts. He won't have any time to learn the plays and what not. I think he's making a mistake. It's not like he needs the money.

I heard an analyst say that Favre's salary pretty much gives him a no-trade clause. He'd make so much money under his current contract that any team that tried to trade for him would have to re-negotiate his contract. Favre of course could refuse to re-negotiate if he doesn't really want to play for a certain team.

I can't speak for Packers fans, but I know just among the fans of other NFL teams that I speak with, he's pretty much exhausted the good will he's built up over the years with all the games he's been playing. If I were a Packers fan, I'd be pretty pissed at him.

I know it'd never ever happen, but I still think it'd be funny if he ended up with the Bears. Who the fuck would he throw it to? Marty Booker?!
