To rephrase my point slightly, he was pulling in 40ish recruiting classes at Wisconsin, a program that had recent success and a rock solid identity to build on, even while he was rattling off 10-win seasons.

Illinois has nothing. No identity, no recent success, no recruiting base.

I’m not sure how he’s going to make it work.

Little secret: he's not. Bert's into full pad the bank account for retirement mode. He'll milk a few mil a year from the Illini and then take his buyout when he's whacked.

Let the Bert memes resume! I hope Day smacks his ass in recruiting and tweaks him off the field since the next scheduled matchup with Illinois isn't until 2024 as of this moment, and I doubt he makes an appearance in Indy before then.

Man Illinois is embarrassing. Hiring a re-tread that has already failed at a place that is easier to succeed at than Illinois? Why would you not take a chance on a young up and comer that may be the next Urban or Dabo? Go out on a limb and find someone with some imagination. No they go back to a clown show. WOW!

Well, I mean they did the same thing with Lovie and the Zooker. Their choices of young coaches hasn’t been any better.

Basically, whoever gets there is issued clown shoes at the door

Bert and Ryan Day won’t be seeing much of each other in recruiting. They don’t recruit in the same circles.
