Bret Bielema (HC Illinois)

How's 3-9 for your first SEC season, Bert? Ouch....

#karma indeed

Remember to smile, Bert.

Coaches on the Hot Seat...

Joyner: Bret Bielema. It's one thing to lose three consecutive SEC games, but to lose the past two by a combined 82-17 score is the kind of thing that will make Arkansas fans wonder if Bielema's system, which won three straight Big Ten titles, can succeed in the toughest conference in college football. Alabama isn't about to take its foot off the gas pedal in this week's matchup, and Arkansas also has remaining games at Ole Miss and LSU to go along with tough home matchups versus Auburn and Mississippi State. It is possible this could be a winless SEC campaign for the Razorbacks.

The one negative to Bert crapping his pants in the SEC is hearing the whole bull[Mark May] of, "successful Big Ten coach comes to the SEC! and ends up as the guest of honor at a no-lube gangbang."

I get it, but it isn't like anyone in B1G country thought that Bert was a good HC. IMO Wiscy is much better off without him. Bert did well enough to not get fired, but he was never going to take them to the next level.

Oh, I agree entirely. And the fact that it's Bert bent over that table with a ball gag in his mouth makes it entirely enjoyable despite whatever SEC!SEC!SEC! bullshit it produces.

Lack of coaching acumen aside, what's most amazing about the Bielemas is that they are the only couple I can think of that can be the Beverly Hillbillies (doofus hicks that are fish out of water in a place that's too classy for them) when the place in question is Arkansas.

I gotta hand it to Cooper, who explained that the way to decide on a coaching offer is to look at the win/loss results from the previous 20 years. He even explained the favorable recruiting position a coach at tOSU has, since there are no actual rivals in the talent rich state, unlike Alabama, Florida, Georgia, etc.

The man whose name is on this thread was guided by money, in part for assistants, and did not take pleasure in the welfare and promotions of his assistants. The circumstances have now been created for his "tragic" downfall.

i basically called this one.

Arky is not an easy place to maintain success
the state does not produce a ton of talent.

so you have to convince kids to move to bum-phuck Arkansas.
and the places the neighboring states they have to pull from?

yeah, good luck with that.

Petrino was able to do it.
but he's a rarity.

He'll probably have a good year now and then (like Nutt did), but not much more.

main thing you gotta look at it available talent pool.
Arky doesn't have that.

when LSU was down in the 90s, we knew we just needed someone who could come in and close the borders to make us a force.
we knew it, because we looked at all these other schools winning with a lot of Louisiana talent that never came to LSU.

name someone worth a shit from Arkansas.

I'll give you 2. Darren McFadden and DeAngelo Williams.

that's pretty much it.
