Brandon Wimbush has yet to start a varsity game at quarterback for
St. Peter’s Prep, but when it comes to facing the high pressure and expectations that come with the position, he’s already a seasoned veteran.
The 6-1-1/2, 205-pound Wimbush is the country's No. 74 ranked prospect in the junior class by ESPN and his head coach Rich Hansen has compared him favorably to former Star-Ledger Offensive Player of the Year and current New York Giants safety Will Hill.
“When I say those things, I don’t say them lightly,” Hansen said. “He’s a really gifted quarterback, who is a great athlete. Will is a really gifted athlete, who happened to be a good quarterback. Brandon takes pride in his craft. Being a quarterback is who he is and what he’s about.”
Rather than be fazed by the pressure, Wimbush has embraced the challenge as he officially takes over the offense at St. Peter’s Prep after seeing limited action a year ago.
“I’ve put this pressure on myself because I felt like I had a good offseason,” said Wimbush, who already has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Rutgers, Miami, Maryland and others. “I’ve been working to get to this point in my career and it’s the season I’ve been waiting for.”
