Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

Was told he couldn't call a timeout?

O RLY?
“During the course of the game when Devin lost, and I think that’s where the critical junction is for some of you, but Devin’s helmet comes off and my intention is to go out and I get the referees attention, who I think is one of the better referees by the way, in this league,” he said.

“And I want to buy him (Gardner) back with a timeout. When I say that, and I talked to the Big Ten, I talked to Bill Carollo last night, was told I couldn’t buy him back and I said yeah we can buy him back so him and I had a little bit of a discussion because you can buy back in because of the helmet, not because of any injury but because of the helmet coming off.

“Well, the linesman comes up and him and I, and I say I want to buy him back and the referee says you can’t do that and the miscommunication or whatever it might be, the head linesman says yes you can. And so, by that time I know Shane’s on the field taking one more snap, handing the ball off, Devin gets his helmet back on. That’s how that sequence went.”

Yeah... That's how that sequence went, Brady.

Obviously very heavily edited as I don't see even one "uh" or "um" in the transcript.

247 sports is already reporting 3 UM commits are going to look elsewhere. I didn't think it was possible, but it may actually get worse, before it gets better. Opposing coaches are going to have a field day in the living rooms of recruits that Michigan on their list.

Damn shame when Rece Davis delivers on this and it's funny...

Hell - we've lived through this kind of stuff here before in Nebraska. From 2004 - 2007.

But at least "dumbest coach in America" didn't run players out there hurt.

Oh, thank you! I posted a description of this right after I heard it, but I couldn't find the video online. I don't laugh out loud that often, but this one scored with me. Hilarious voice impersonation of Mickey Mous...I mean, Brady Hoke.

FTR: the waving off help shit doesn't fly. I've pulled kids off a field and they've tried to get back in their line (lacrosse). Had to take away helmets... One of the kids had zero memory of trying to get back on the field the next day.

Not a fan of Suga either, and count me in as one who thinks he was rated about two stars too high... But we're still talking about elite athletes who have a competitive spirit. That kind of kid _has_ to be removed from the field... he's not going to take himself off. That goes double for a kid who is trying to show that he's going to lead his team.

I'll go so far as to say that as a coach I don't see every hit on the field. I may be intentionally watching off-ball to see how picks are being set or the like... But I know how all of my kids look when they are Ok and when they have a bit of a ding. Their lives are too short and there are many more games to be played not to pull them if I even think they are injured.

That said, I also talk to my kids about the difference between pain and injury. They know they are responsible for communicating with me as well. Suga had a responsibility to himself _and_ his team to get his ass off the field.

Massive failures all around by everyone.

Assuming he had sufficient clarity to accurately assess his condition.
