Underestimating Hoke's Clapping Ability

Rich

Posted 9/21/2014 1:20 PM

I think we have unfairly focused on Hoke's coaching failures while not giving him credit for his clapping abilities. He is clearly the best clapper in Division I and its not by accident, its by design. You see, other Division I coaches wear those pesky headsets which require them to be tuned into the game, provide input into the game plan and at times, even call a play, all of which distracts them from clapping and encouraging the players as they come off the field after they've fumbled, thrown an interception, or were sacked for a loss. So we need to give credit where credit is due and not focus so much on wins and losses, declining attendance, diminishing recruiting, etc.

College football: Michigan's Brady Hoke on the hot seat?

Brady Hoke received a hero’s welcome when he returned to coach Michigan in 2011. The unpopular Rich Rodriguez was gone, and Hoke, who had been on the Wolverine staffs of Gary Moeller and Lloyd Carr from 1995-2002, was hailed as a savior.

When Michigan went 11-2 and won the Sugar Bowl that first season, the Wolverines seemed headed back to glory.

But Michigan went 8-5 in 2012, 7-6 in 2013 and now are 2-1 with two mediocre wins sandwiching a 31-0 loss to Notre Dame. The Wolverines are getting worse, not better.

And with Utah playing in Ann Arbor on Saturday, the Wolverines are dangling. The Utes aren’t world-beaters but appear to be improved. And the program historically has played well at the Big House. In two 21st-century matchups, Michigan has outscored Utah 33-32.

Lose to Utah, and the Wolverines could begin flirting with a losing record. And the Brady Hoke honeymoon will be a distant memory.

Under DickRod scUM actually improved each year (3-9, 5-7, 7-6), he started with Carr's leftovers (i.e. the the cupboard was bare). Under cHoke scUM seems to be in a 3 year "death spiral".

Speaking of rumors and speculation, since we all know that the tSUN is "due" for a good coach and since that last time tSUN had a good coach they hired him from tOSU, then let me see .... Withers is available and has head coaching experience.
