Last year, Michigan had losses to #1 Alabama, #3 Ohio State, #4 Notre Dame, and #8 South Carolina, with only one being a blow-out (at least on the scoreboard). I guess that qualifies as a respectable 8-5 season, and could be seen as heading in the right direction.

This year Hoke has losses to unranked Penn State, Nebraska, and Iowa, with a blow-out loss to #11 Michigan State (and #3 Ohio State looming) and very narrow victories over Northwestern (4-7), Akron (4-7), and UConn (1-9). I'd say that Michigan is still heading in the right direction, but I'm an Ohio State fan.

I was just wondering if there is any set of circumstances that could get Hoke fired this year. Would getting the PSU plunger treatment do it? What if OSU wins the BCS and scUM loses the Pizza Bowl to Buffalo? What if all his prize recruits realize going to scUM is a lost cause and pick other schools? Maybe it's just because he's getting fatter, but the noose has to be getting tighter.

Not that I want him to get canned since that just opens the door for scUM maybe hiring a good coach.

My fervent desire for him to get a lifetime contract aside, I'd say getting blown out in The Game and losing recruits would speed up his firing but I just don't see them doing it this year no matter what.

If things play out the way they seem to be pointing right now I think his assistants get the chop this year and he goes behind them next year. If he pulls the miracle out of his incredibly fat ass and wins The Game somehow then its all over, he's there for the long term.

14 game season with a home and home with Bye? Did the NCAA approve this? Anyway, I got 'em losing to ND, MSU and OSU. The rest even a bad Michigan should be able to handle.

Really? Appy State again?? Is that a joke?

I know I should not want App State to win that game, for conference strength and all, but damn, it will be hard not to root for the Mountaineers on this one.

Next year no one-loss team will make the playoff from the B1G because "we suck" according to the media. And if OSU goes undefeated, we will never be left out. In summary, the strength of the conference means nothing next year. Go Appy State!

So, like March Madness for basketball, NCAA football's playoff teams will be picked by a committee....yet you think strength of the conference won't matter. Conference games make up...what...about 2/3 of each team's schedule? If Idaho or Northern Illinois goes undefeated for a couple years will they be an automatic playoff team? No? Why not? Oh, yeah....because of who they played, right?

The basketball model has shown that strength of schedule for bubble teams might be the MOST important factor. With the football playoffs, every team selected will be a bubble choice for the committee. ScUM losing to Appy State would matter and would matter for years to come.

For scUM! As for me and mine FUCK MICHIGAN!! Nirvana would be facing an 0-11 scUM team.
