I was part of the reason for the big drop too. Either the Buckeyes were deflated by the unexpected unavailability of the 3 recently-suspended players, or I had them massively over-rated. I have no choice but to go with "massively over-rated" until they prove otherwise. IMHO the Buckeyes did not play like a Top 25 team at all on Saturday, but I still had them ranked because I think they are at least a little better than they showed. How much better remains to be seen. FWIW: I did not over-rate VPI as much as I did the Buckeyes, and so they did not lose as many points from my ranking as the Buckeyes did. Then there is the fact that ECU always seems to jump up and bite somebody or come very close to it. I gave the Hokies a little benefit of a doubt, which is what I did for the Buckeyes in keeping them in the top-25.

This week, Ohio State dropped from 7th to 16th, despite the fact that the Buckeyes won their game.

Last week, Ohio State was ranked 5 places higher, and received 86 more votes, than Virginia Tech. This week, VPI is one spot and five votes better than OSU. Must have been the Hokies impressive 17-10 win over powerhouse East Carolina.

I dropped Ohio State seven spots & Virginia Tech four. I still have VPI behind OSU.

Nah, that's a sober assessment. I rank based on who I think would beat who.

I think LSU would beat everyone.

I think Boise would beat everyone but LSU.

I think Oklahoma would beat everyone but LSU and Boise.

etc.

No sucking up. It's just that it's really early, and these rankings are VERY hit-and-miss. I know for a fact (having watched practice) that Nebraska hasn't run all the plays in their arsenal yet. In fact, I'd venture to say they haven't even run half their plays. But even still, what they've shown on the field leads me to believe they would lose to Florida, Ohio State, Michigan State, etc.

Here are the results of the 2011 week two BP poll:

01. Alabama 426 (4)
02. Louisiana State 425 (7)
03. Oklahoma 408 (7)

There's something you don't see often: the second AND third place teams both got more first place votes than the first place team. Looks like opinions of LSU and OU vary somewhat widely while Bama is consistently in everyone's top three.
