Seriously though, we'll see how good they really are going forward...they're a great story thus far, and if they can muster a win over Dook, they will already be bowl eligible (of course they should beat Mississippi State before that). Would like to see Vandy make a bowl.

I'm ranking them solely on what has happened so far.
BYU is a top 10 team, but only beat a BAD Washington team by 1 point on a questionable call. Vandy's schedule so far has been tougher than BYU's.

I'm not going to give one team a higher ranking based on an easier future schedule.

I still don't understand BYU. Why are they 8 in our poll when it seems like everyone thinks they are lower than that? Did anybody have BYU in their top 7?
I put BYU at #12. I guess just because they are undefeated and they really only have one tough game remaining in Utah. However, I have not seen them play and so really don't know how good they really are. Oh, in my poll I have Vanderbilt at #16 and I do not have Kentucky ranked at all. I have not seen Kentucky play but I do not think that Hartline could bring them back against a good team.

My poll:
  1. Oklahoma
  2. LSU
  3. Missouri
  4. Texas
  5. Bama
  6. Penn St
  7. Vandy
  8. BYU
  9. Texas Tech
  10. Utah
  11. Georgia
  12. Boise St.
  13. USC
  14. Ohio St.
  15. Florida
  16. Northwestern
  17. Kansas
  18. Wake Forest
  19. Cal
  20. Mic. St.
  21. Ball St.
  22. Pittsburgh
  23. North Carolina
  24. Illinois
  25. Kentucky
Pollster's note: Picking which order to put USC, Florida, and Ohio St. was difficult. Sorry, but I cannot with good fait put Ohio St. above a team that beat them soundly when they have the same record. I think Florida's loss was worse than USC (due to home vs road). OSU has the "best" loss, so they went above Florida.

Homer. :tongue2:

My rankings (last weeks rankings in parentheses):

  1. Oklahoma (1)
  2. LSU (2)
  3. Missouri (3)
  4. Alabama (4)
  5. Texas (5)
  6. Penn St. (6)
  7. BYU (7)
  8. Texas Tech (8)
  9. USC (9)
  10. Georgia (10)
  11. Ohio St.(11)
  12. Florida (13)
  13. Oklahoma St. (15)
  14. Utah (14)
  15. Boise St. (19)
  16. Kansas (16)
  17. Michigan St. (22)
  18. Vanderbilt (23)
  19. Virginia Tech (24)
  20. Northwestern (NR)
  21. North Carolina (NR)
  22. Ball St. (NR)
  23. Illinois (NR)
  24. South Florida (12)
  25. Wisconsin (20)
Dropped from last week: Auburn (17), Fresno St. (18), UConn (21), Oregon (25)

I'll admit I am a bit ignorant when it comes to BYU and might have them a bit high. And as others have said I'm sure Texas Tech will be exposed at some point but as of now no one has been able to keep up with their offense. 2-6 could be in any order and I wouldn't blink an eye. I also have a hard time putting Utah and Boise State ahead of a 1-loss Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida.

Conference teams in top BP 25:

Big 12.......6
SEC...........5
Big 10.......5
ACC...........3
PAC 10......2
Big East.....1
Mountain E.2
WAC...........1

bold = BCS conference

OK, the Big 12 has more teams in the top 10, but the Big 10 may not be as bad (weak) a conference as some reporters would lead you to believe.

Or we're just a bunch of homers.

  1. Agree with your top five but just not in that order:biggrin:. However, that will start to shake out in the upcoming weeks. I have a very difficult time believing that Vanderbilt is the 7th best team in the country. They beat a team by 1 point that is not even in your top 25. Also have a hard time with BYU and Utah up that high but I guess we will never know about one of them until January when they play a quality opponent. Also have a hard time with Northwestern but that will shake out as they play more quality Big 10 opponents. Otherwise, a very good job.

Since I am disagreeing with everybody else's poll, I figure that I should make mine transparent as well. I have seen most of these teams play on TV except for the teams in the Mountain West and I have rated them as I think how they would perform against either teams above or below them.
1 Oklahoma
2 Alabama
3 Missouri
4 LSU
5 Texas
6 Penn St.
7 USC
8 Texas Tech
9 Florida
10 Georgia
11 Ohio St.
12 BYU
13 Illinois
14 Kansas
15 Boise St.
16 Vanderbilt
17 Oklahoma St.
18 Michigan St.
19 Virginia Tech
20 Wisconsin
21 California
22 Utah
23 Ball St.
24 Northwestern
25 North Carolina

My top 5 is pretty close to interchangable. None of them have done anything to really separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

Vandy has more wins against BCS schools than Texas Tech, BYU, or Utah.
Georgia drops out of top 10 because they got rolled at home. They don't fall to the back of the 1-loss pack because it was a loss to a (now) top 5 team.

I'm not sold on schools like Northwestern, Vandy, Ball St, etc keeping up this run. However, I'm not going to penalize them NOW for something I think MIGHT happen in the future. I save that punishment for when it happens (juuuust in case that day never comes).

Kentucky at 25 was just a courtesy vote for the effort they displayed against Bama this past weekend.

Vanderbilt is a bit high for having only beaten SoCar and a bad Auburn team, but hey, they've earned their ranking...for now. I've had Oklahoma State ranked all season, they have a good team and they're coached by A MAN, but we'll see what they have this weekend. I imagine either NW or MSU will be making a hasty exit after this weekend.

Hate to say I was right, but...

Haha...Now you are just going to influence other BP voters. I will post mine when all the votes are in. I don't believe in this CBS News BS of calling states before all the ballots around the country are in. But I do have my poll done. I'll tell you where you are wrong later :tongue2:
