Only 14 voters this week. I know that some of you are still emotionally drained from last weekend, and a few still don't have power after the storms, but I'd really like to get at least 20 voters each week. Again, new voters are always welcome - remember that this is a fan poll, and that you do not need to have any particular qualifications to participate.

You might have had only 14 voters this week but just think of the quality of the voters.

I still have a hard time putting those WAC teams up so high. I know that BYU put a number on UCLA put UCLA probably thought they were better than they really were from the previous week. I had Nebraska as my last team in. Don't know why maybe it was because they haven't been in the top 25 for so long and I felt sorry for them:wink2:.

Despite last week, I couldn't put Auburn, BYU and Texas Tech ahead of us. I simply don't believe those teams beat us head-to-head at this point.

That opinion could change this weekend, but Texas Tech gets hyped very year because of their offense and has yet to deliver. None of their wins to date wow me. BYU rolled UCLA but I think time will show UCLA's win over Tennessee to be less impressive and more of a fluke than anything. Auburn has a chance to impress me a bit this weekend.

Frankly, I have us higher than any Big Ten team, still. PSU hasn't played anyone, and Wiscy didn't exactly thump Fresno.

I also had a hard time putting WAC teams, like Boise State, very high. But I did rank the Mountain West teams rather high: BYU, Utah, and I also voted for TCU. :wink2:

Before WVU beat Georgia in that BCS bowl, there was a lot of talk (including from me), that the Mtn West was better than the Big East. This year, it looks like it's time for that discussion again.

WAC/Mountain West/Big East. They should all be put into one conference and it could he be called the Big WAC West Conference. Really, I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in any of those conferences and I do think the Mountain West Conference is highly overrated this year thanks to the boys north of the border:(. Utah beating them on their turf certainly help that Conference's reputation and brought the WAC reputation up along with bringing the reputation of their own conference. I would like to play any of those schools on a neutral site and see how they perform week after week against BCS schools.

I'm assuming you meant Big West, which doesn't exist anymore.

I am willing to go out on a limb and say either Utah or BYU could win the ACC this year, or at least be competitive for it, and I think either could also win the Big Least. And I'm not sure how Utah's perfomance has anything to do with the WAC's reputation.

Sorry, not trying to pick on you, but you lost me here.

No. I meant the Big East. I was going off of the post above by the bookie. I also meant by one of those conference teams beating a Big 10 school it makes both the WAC and Mountain West look good. I lump both of those conferences together when it comes to talking about football. They get one upset a year and it bodes well for both conferences.

However, I do agree that this year a team from one of those conferences could probably win the ACC or Big East.

I don't mind being picked on because most of the time I don't make any sense anyhow:)

If anything I would say there are a couple of good teams every year that get the right amount of credit, but as a whole the conferences are awful. For example Boise State has been really good recently, but the WAC still has Idaho and Utah State in it. That doesn't mean Boise State is less good, it means the conference still sucks.

One conference I can't make much out of is Conference USA. They have some reasonably decent teams on occasion, but never seem to beat anybody anymore, now that Southern Miss has stopped.

I think you should read this article in order to help you differentiate the Mountain West teams from those in other conferences. They've done a lot more than beat TSUN and blow out UCLA.

usatoday.mwest/2008

... The league is 6-2 this year against teams from leagues with automatic bids to the BCS ...

The MWC is 5-0 against the Pacific-10...

The league is a combined 7-2 in bowls the last two seasons. TCU is 11-2 and Utah is 10-3 in the programs' last 13 games against teams from automatic-qualifying BCS leagues.
