Weird. I could have sworn I left Pitt in my rankings, but I guess I didn't. Oops!
Damn, I meant to include Iowa, as well. Wow, I suck at this game. :smash:

Oklahoma jumps Florida, but not Texas. I can't bring myself to put the dirty land-thieves over the 'Horns just yet. Tech drops to 7th, just above Oklahoma State. Utah leap-frogged Missouri based on an impressive victory over a good BYU team. Perhaps I haven't given them enough credit.

Eh, 15-25. Who cares?

I have Florida as my #1 because I think when it is all said and done there will win the national championship. While Alabama might have a defense, they have no offense whatsoever. I put Oklahoma at #2 because of the way they destroyed Texas Tech. SomethingTexas could not do. I rank teams not so much by wins/losses but who I think is playing the best football right now. I just can't bring myself to putting Utah in the top 10 although I did put them at #11. From 15-25, teams come and go every week so that is really a crap shoot but I basically have the same teams that are in the BP poll but not in that exact order.

I vote based on what's happened on the field to date, not what I expect to happen for the remainder of the year.

Before the Oklahoma-TexTech game, I believed that if Oklahoma won I would have Texas ahead of them, since in the Tex-Okla-Tech go-round, they won on a neutral field and lost a very close game on the road, wheras Oklahoma would have a home win and a neutral loss. I think it's better to look at those games as a group, rather than just to look at Tex-Okla head-to-head. But the blowout nature of Oklahoma's win, plus the fact that their non-conference wins against TCU and Cincy should carry some weight, made me place the ahead of Texas.

I should probably have ranked Iowa, but plenty of teams will doubtlessly drop out next week, so they'll get in there. I moved some teams ahead of Boise State because they gave up 34 to Nevada.

So, you are saying that your poll reflects how teams have played year to date and not really who is the best team or am I reading you wrong. I think if you believe that Alabama is a better team than Florida when it comes time for the SEC championship game I would like a "even" bet from the vbookie:)

No, you're reading me correctly, but I would not bet on Alabama straight up in the SEC CCG. :tongue2:

It's just that I believe that the preseason polls are the only ones that should be made based on speculation of which team is best; the other ones should be based on what's happened on the field-to-date.

Alabama at #1. Undefeated in probably the 2nd toughest conference in the nation. Gotta give them the one spot for that. Since we have a rock-paper-scissors scenario in the Big 12, I ranked them based on who I think is the better team based on the eye test. I would have put Tech over Florida because Tech has the "better loss," but since they got absolutely waxed and Florida has been playing perhaps the best football in the country as of late, I had to move them down a spot. I'm going to say this for like the 100th time, USC's offense is spotty. Would not be too surprised if they got humiliated in their BCS game. I think Utah might be a much, much better football team than I have them rated. Assuming they end up in the Orange Bowl based on the order of selection, I think they would smoke whichever ACC or Big East team they meet with the exception of Georgia Tech because I think G-Tech happens to be a pretty good football team. Three key in-state rivalry's to watch this weekend: Oregon State vs. Oregon, Georgia Tech vs. Georgia. Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma.

Miami #22 (lost)
North Carolina #23 (lost)
Maryland #24 (lost)
Boston College #25 (won)

Week 13
Georgia Tech #21
Florida State #22
Boston College #23

The overall record of the ACC teams when ranked: 11-18 (.379), with 4 bye weeks.

Nine ACC teams have been ranked at some point in our poll - only Duke, Virginia, and N.C. State haven't made it. Each of those nine teams has fallen out of the poll. Three are back in this week, and of those three Georgia Tech (vs. Georgia) and Florida State (vs. Florida) will likely lose; only Boston College (vs. Maryland) will be favored to win.

EDIT: The longest consecutive run for any ACC team this year - five weeks for Wake Forest (pre-season through week 4, and one week was a bye, so that's only four games and three wins during their streak).

Some call it "parity" ... I call it "crap".

Utah plays their biggest game of the year, and rolls against BYU. They've played three top 20 teams, and won all three...and haven't lost a game they shouldn't. They are getting a bad rap because they aren't a BCS conference team, but their conference has 3 top 20 teams. Big 10 has 3, SEC has 3, Pac-10 has 2, Big East has 1, ACC has 1, using the BCS rankings. So, is their conference that much worse than the BCS conferences. Maybe the bottom feeders aren't as good, but it shouldn't matter who the bottom feeders are, top 5 schools should take care of them. Florida has played 1 top 25 team...and has a loss. Screw the score, they lost a game they shouldn't have, and they've been blowing out teams that aren't in the top 25. They have one real quality win in my book...and that is @ Georgia. That plus them running up the score when the other team quits makes me put them here, I still think they are the best 1 loss team though. USC has a good win against Ohio State, but lost to the other quality team they played, but they, along with Florida, look right now to be the two best one loss teams in my eyes. With so many one loss teams, you've got to use the eye test, in my opinion. And my eye sees these two as the best two 1 loss teams. I have Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech 5,6,7 as they have all lost to each other, and all have played in a very tough conference, but when comparing them to USC or Florida, I think they'd fall short. Texas Tech does not have any good road wins, and Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral field. That's where I get that order. Penn State to me is the worst 1 loss team and Ohio State is the best 2 loss team. The rest is pretty self explanitory. Kudos to Northwestern for a 9 win season, and Iowa for a great season, and one of the biggest upsets this year.

The big difference in my poll is that i'm not as high on the Big 12 as everyone else is, just because they all lost to each other doesn't make them all of a sudden better than USC and Florida, who i've always thought were the best 1 loss teams. And Utah finished undefeated, and with a good win against BYU, did enough for me to take them from behind the one-loss teams, to in front of them. I really can't see Utah dropping from my top 2 either. I will likely have the Alabama/Florida winner and Utah in my top 2. The computers, who aren't blinded by biases, all have Utah ranked ahead of USC and Florida. Plus kudos to Utah for trying to schedule an even harder schedule than they had...they probably figured Michigan would be a really tough game. They did all they could, have played as tough of a schedule as possible for a team like them, and if they don't deserve going, especially in a season where there aren't 2 other undefeated teams...then why should these schools even play D1A football? They aren't like Hawaii was last year...they've actually played a good schedule. And the reason I don't have the Big XII higher, is because in my mind that triangle thing hurts them. Maybe others disagree and all that jazz, but I just feel like those three teams are top 10 teams...but none of them are top 2 teams...and the fact that those 3 are all right around a 5th ranked team, that is why they lost to one another. If one of the teams was a top 2 team...that team would not have lost. And none of the losses were fluke.

JXC, I find it interesting that you say the computers aren't blinded by bias, and they have Utah ranked ahead of USC and Florida.

But you don't mention the computers and their lack of bias when explaining why you have USC and Florida ahead of the Big 12 teams. :wink2:

  • Alabama #1, only undefeated BCS school
  • I kept Texas ahead of Oklahoma because they beat them head-to-head (yes, I know the circular argument with UT-OU-TT) and jumped them ahead of Florida because... well, i wanted to. :p 2-4 are really a personal preference at this point andy my preference says Florida shouldn't get rewarded for beating up on The Citadel.
  • I can't put Utah ahead of any 1-loss BCS schools in good conscience and probably have Boise a little too high... after rethinking this they should be somewhere around 12.
  • Northwestern is probably a little high at 18 but after a good 9-3 season they should be rewarded.
  • No ACC team will get above 20 on my poll for the rest of the year, even if one of them smashes a Big12, SEC, or Big10 school in the bowls.

In your "eye test" do strongly believe that Alabama is a better team than Florida or are you just using your "eye test" for the Big XII:huh:. If you sincerely believe that Alabama is going to beat Florida in the SEC championship game, I am sure that we can arrange a little vbet.

The only reason that I have sometimes 2 and sometimes 3 ACC teams in my top 25 is because all of the other teams across the country are losing to lesser teams in their conferences. It is almost to the point where I am getting hard up to find teams to put in slots 20-25 or even 15-25.
