BP Modifications/Updates/Improvements Tracker

Clarity,

Did you receive the two PM's I sent to you by chance?

I did. Sorry, as backlogged as I am in regards to things I need to do on the site, I'm even further behind with PMs. I have 153 unread waiting for me, just need to sit down and grind through them at some point.

Since I'm already here, I think the answer to your question is that a portion of that thread was moved to the thread 'black hole' because some of the posts were out of line/too problematic to stay up. When the admins do this, they try to limit the collateral damage, but that's not always practical when fishing, say, dozens of posts out of a thread that has hundreds.

An example of this in practice would be the recent Matt Sylvester thread. Poor Matt has back problems that would leave us normal folks crippled. The wonders of modern medicine can keep athletes going until they get a chance to really investigate/repair injuries. Through this pain and physical limitation, the guy has been a warrior for the team -- but when he has bad games, he's brutalized for it on various forums, much more so than he's celebrated when he pulls something like an MSU game out. So when people here get a little too venomous in their posts about him (about *any* player/coach/etc.), specifically when it crosses a line to the point where we're ashamed (as a site) about how we're coming off to the player in question (personal attacks, etc.), we lasso the problematic section of a thread, and dump it in a holding bin. It's not about censorship, it's about maintaining the atmosphere here, and trying to be seen at least a bit less of a player/team bashing community than the other sites are. It really comes down to the very difficult "criticism" vs. "bashing" balancing act that we constantly have to weigh and maintain. I just use Matt Sylvester as an example, because that thread is the most recent example of this. The thread you're asking about, I believe -- I'm looking into it way after the fact -- was more a case of a few posters letting their personal differences get far too personal, and vitriolic. That section of that thread was yanked in order to afford everyone a cool down.

Sorry about the delayed response.

You do not owe me any apology for not answering the PM's I sent to you. It's obvious you have been and are extrememly busy and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. When and if you have some breathing room could you look into the drastic drop in the chiclets I had and have now? You briefly touched on it in another thread that I can no longer find but you said something to the effect that what had happened shouldn't have and you would look into it. It's nothing of importance but I'm just curious how I dropped so drastically when some changes were implemented a while back. Thanks again for all you've done to make BP what it is.

No worries, you shouldn't have had to PM twice.

Do you happen to know what the numeric rep value was that you held before the site-wide division down to the current values?

If you know that, PM it to me. If you don't, no worries, I can try and look it up elsewhere. The easy answer is that the rep values were universally cut down, and the cost of chicklets increased significantly. The more difficult, and perhaps more relevant answer, is that administrative adjustments to rep *before* those changes were destroyed during the transition. Which is to say that for any reason, if I or anyone else had to manually adjust your rep for whatever reason, the new values would have been skewed. Which may be the case with you.

Either way, we'll figure it out.

I wish I did remember what the value was but I'm afraid my halfheimers is preventing me from remembering what it was. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that there were none of the gold medallion things, just the row of chicklets and there were four gold ones on the end. And when I moused over the last gold one text would pop up saying "Buckeyeskins is Tresselesque" or something to that effect. You have much more important things to tangle with now so when you find time maybe you can check it out.

I'm sorry, let me chime in here right now. The rep values were decreased, by alot.

With that said and what you said what your rep bar looked like, it sounds like your rep is exactly how the adjustments should have made it.

I had like 10-11(may have been more) Gold Buckeye Leaves before the change. And you see what I have now.

But I dont have and never have had any warnings so that should count for something and besides I've been here a hell of a lot longer then you. Member number 28. So that should count for something as well.

Just yanking your chain.

the quick reply system is struggling big time with this new update. I hit post reply, and it just sits there doing nothing most of the time. However, if I refresh the page I often notice that my post did go thru, it just didn't give any indication that it went thru on my screen.

Me too. I actually started a thread in the Admin section asking the same thing.

Well, now, I tried the link again from here (this thread) and all is well. Didn't work from the front, but seems to now.

Edit - recreated problem from front page.

This is purley a user friendly request and I don't know if it could be done but...

Is it possible to move or copy the forum jump to the top of the page. I use it all the time, but would like it more if it were at the top too.

If you don't like it tell me to go away.
