I see your Verlander and Bauer and raise you a deGrom. 8 more scoreless innings tonight without getting a win to lower his ERA to 1.68 on the year. The dude has 5 W’s all year! For frame of reference, Zach Godley and his 4.8 ERA has 10 wins. So I second Jax’s take on this one.

Can someone explain to me how a pitcher earns a win and a hold in the same game?

Schultz came in the game ahead 9-6. Pitched 2.2 and Romo pitched the final out. Shouldn’t the win go to Kolarek, who pitched the 6th?

no fucking idea

The Rays rotational stuff has really educated us all on just how archaic the rules are for officially scoring pitchers

The counting stats of pitchers, other than K's, become more worthless in my eyes every passing year.

He can't. I'm guessing whatever you saw has since been corrected because it just shows a win now.

When the starter leaves before the minimum 5 innings, the "winning pitcher" is up to the official scorer (provided the lead is never relinquished). Kolarek gave up 4 runs in 1 inning, while Shultz pitched 2.2 of shutout ball and was awarded the win.
