What happens if there are not enough Bowl eligible teams to fill all the Bowls? Do the games just get canceled? If so, which ones are in jeopardy?

Every time I see this thread title in the 'top 10' thingy, my brain sees it as "bowels in trouble?", which makes it sound like some sort of awful intro to an adult diaper commercial.

Sorry, I just had to share.

I think there are plenty of bowl eligible teams. Mid-majors will get bowl bids if major conferences don't fill how many they need. For instance. The MAC is getting 3 bowls this year instead of 2, because the Pac-10 didn't have enough teams eligible.

But...there ARE too many Bowl Games...can you imagine how hard it was to get in bowl games decades ago...and yet NOW is the year that Nebraska breaks their long streak of bowls.

We need another thread that says "The Bowls are looking good." Just so Clarity can have fun with his dyslexia on that one.

Right now, as it stands, there are not enough Bowl eligible teams to fill all the Bowls. That is why I asked the question. I have no idea, however, what happens in that scenario. Does anyone know?

There will always be enough bowl eligible teams. Mid-major programs from the MAC, WAC, MWC, etc.. will fill the rest of the bowls. None of those conferences get to send all of their bowl eligible teams.

So, what you are telling me, for example, is that the Motor City Bowl is going to pit two MAC teams against each other, since the Big Ten couldn't fill it's Bowl slots? Ohhh joy!!!

How about a MAC and a WAC team? Or a MAC and a SunBelt team? Or a MAC and a MWC team? No reason to get your panties in a bunch, read what I said instead of trying to be funny.

By my count there are 28 bowls and 57 bowl eligible teams (not counting Clemson and SC). That will leave 1 bowl eligible team to sit at home over the bowl season. I wonder what the olds of that team being Akron are? Maybe they can play the 1AA champion in the Trojan Condoms Rubber Bowl or the American Standard Toilet Bowl (Bowel?) held in Ann Arbor. :p
