Red Sox's boycott pays off for coaches

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fans at City of Palms Park were ready for Boston's final spring training game in Florida. The Red Sox weren't.
In an extraordinary move, Boston players voted to boycott a nationally televised exhibition and yesterday afternoon's flight to Japan for next week's season-opening series against Oakland, upset that coaches weren't going to receive the same $40,000 payments negotiated for players by their union.
A couple of hours later, all was resolved, and the Red Sox took the field one hour late for a 4-3 loss to Toronto before a crowd of 7,868.

I wouldn't count on JD during the regular season....he's likely to pull a muscle swimming. He's done it before.

What's the feeling on Clay Buchholz right now? I got him late in my fanatsy draft.

Clay has been struggling a bit in spring training and is battling for the 5th starter spot. He gave up four runs yesterday in Tokyo. We shall see -- it's still his first season starting in the majors.

Moss, Manny come up clutch
Rookie ties things up with blast, veteran drives in winning runs
By Ian Browne / MLB.com

TOKYO -- The 24-year-old outfield prospect from Loganville, Ga., had to travel all the way to the Far East to club his first Major League homer. However, the timing was nothing short of perfect and the hit was the definition of clutch. In fact, it was downright storybook stuff. Brandon Moss -- who wound up propelling the Red Sox to a 6-5 victory over the A's on Tuesday -- wasn't even supposed to play on Opening Day. But when J.D. Drew came down with lower back tightness in the hours leading up to the game, Red Sox manager Terry Francona turned to Moss.

Looks like J.D. Drew is ready to play this year. He had a grand slam today. That makes 7 RBI in the last two games.
