Boston College 14, Virginia Tech 10 (Final)

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait for BC to lose now. Honestly.

I realize that ESPN is headquartered in Bristol,CT. But their love of all things BoSox has has tainted the very core of SportsCenter and every show they do anymore. It has now reached a sickening level.

The lead in this morning was about BC being #2 in the BCS, and how thankful they should be about not having to face Curt Schilling this week. I had to turn it off. I'm sure not long after that would have been some serious no hand, sloppy fellating of Tom "Chin Cleft" Brady and the somehow relevant all of a sudden Boston Bruins.

Some numbers for this game...

National Rankings for the following:
DSC:
  • BC: 44th
  • VT: 24th
Differential Scoring Offense:
  • BC: 13th
  • VT: 72nd
Differential Scoring Defense:
  • BC: 88th
  • VT: 8th
It is worth noting that BC has the 17th ranked Scoring Defense in the land after games vs. lower division schools are thrown out. But they have played such terrible offenses that their differential scoring defense is all the way down at 88th. It is entirely possible that Boston College has the most overrated defense in college football.

On the other side of the coin, VPI's offense is atrocious. Even so, they appear to be a better match-up for BC's defense than BC's offense is for VPI's defense. Especially when you consider the BC's offense hasn't faced a pass rush with a pulse yet.

Boston College has allowed a grand total of 7 sacks all season. They gave up multiple sacks 3 times.

In the three games where they gave up more than one sack, they scored 24 points in two of them. In the other game where they gave up 2 sacks, the defense snagged 5 turnovers and put the offense in position to score 38 points. The point is that if VPI can get to Ryan and protect the ball, they can keep the score within reach.

Virginia Tech has sacked the opposing quarterback at least 4 times for 5 weeks running. While BC is half-way decent at protecting the quarterback, they have not faced anyone that can rush the quarterback... until now.

And VT is also in the top 10 in the nation at protecting the football, having given up only 9 turnovers all season. They are not likely to surrender enough turnovers to give the game away. Not at home anyway.

In spite of all this, I very nearly put my v$ on BC because they've been sitting around for 2 weeks listening to just about everybody (as far as I've heard anyway) say that they have no chance.

The Eagles might play inspired football because of the disrespect factor, but I don't think it will be enough. They are not familiar with wearing the bullseye on their back, and its going to get them killed.

College football notebook: Hokies' choice for QB a mystery

From wire reports

Sean Glennon led Virginia Tech to a 43-14 win over Duke on Oct. 13.

Call it gamesmanship, or call it uncertainty. Just don't call Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer this week and ask him which quarterback -- Sean Glennon or Tyrod Taylor -- he plans to start tonight against No. 2 Boston College.
Beamer isn't saying a word.

For me, your points below aren't relevant, and I do understand that you're venting. :)

I've given this game a LOT of thought and attempted to consider which outcome I prefer more:

1) BC win. Keeps the LSU hacks from slobbering all over the mike about how quickly the Tigers are going to surpass such an "over-rated" OSU team.
2) BC loss. LSU gets the big head, because they haven't lost much from a couple sub-par games the last few weeks.

Personally, I feel better about a BC win.

What little I get to see/hear/read of ESPN has to do with the radio more than anything. Colin Cowherd makes me want to slit my wrists on the way to work, but I stay tuned so that I can hear what his guests have to say.

Does it really matter

Do we really think that BC will run the board anyway- I say VT just because I have enjoyed watching the masses tumble. :tongue2: However, living in New Orleans previously- love the city, can't wait to go back- don't want it to be against LSU- so I would take BC in Jan...wouldn't you??

just heard the commentators start with the game with "its a torrential down pour in Blacksburg and #2 is "0" for October!!!, guess we skipped right over #2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If BC wins tonight they can run the table.

i really, really want bc to lose. if ohio state runs the regular season table, i do not want the bucks to play bc. if you disliked the clamor that the previous championship was a fraud, it would be much louder this time. i want either lsu or another sec team to be the opponent. at worst, i would like to see usc. i don't see that happening, though.

Sounds good to me Buckguy, hit them with a slobber knocker, then let them holler about the B10 sucks.

Although, I hope tOSU and BC win out. I'd love to see them in NO (but I bet on VT, for the record).
