Celts end Rockets' 22-game streak

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 3:02 AM

Associated Press

The shots stopped falling, Boston's stars took over and just like that, the Houston Rockets' 22-game winning streak was history.
Kevin Garnett scored 22 points and Paul Pierce had 20 as the Celtics beat the Rockets 94-74 last night, stopping Houston's remarkable victory run.
The Rockets hadn't lost since falling 97-89 to Utah on Jan. 27 and put together the NBA's second-longest winning streak. It ended 11 shy of the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers, who won 33 in a row.

Celtics 94, Mavericks 90 -- Ray Allen returned from a three-game injury absence and nailed a go-ahead three-point basket with 31.7 seconds left for Boston, which completed an impressive sweep in Texas.
No team had gone 3-0 in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas since Sacramento did it in November 2001.
After giving San Antonio's its first home loss in six weeks, then ending Houston's 22-game winning streak, Boston came back to give Dallas just its sixth home loss.

Team to beat? :slappy:

3 aging stars can't win a title. Never has, never will. But keep dreaming...

The comparison to the Heat a few posts ago is rather idiotic considering the Heat were lead by Wade, a superstar in his prime. there is nobody of his caliber on this Celtic team.

I could go on and on....

It already is a trainwreck - Boston fans just don't know it yet.

The Celtics just mortgaged their future on three 30+ guys that have never made the NBA Finals. (and in Allen's case, he was lucky to ever see the playoffs). Neither player even so much as led their team to the playoffs in any of the past two years.

Their point guard (Rondo) couldn't win a 3rd grade 3-point shooting contest. Their shooting guard (Allen) couldn't guard my grandmother. Their small forward (Pierce) is an injury prone ballhog who gets destroyed every time he plays against someone superior athletically (See Lebron). They have no center AND ZERO BENCH.

And now, all of a sudden, they're the best team in the East according to some commentators? :slappy:

Come off it. They might make the playoffs, and may even win their weak division. But after two years of playoff fizzles, they'll be trying to start all over again with what they have left - which is now, of course, nothing.

Danny Ainge got taken to school on this trade.
