L'ville AD: Bobby Petrino accepts job

Western Kentucky's Bobby Petrino has agreed to become Louisville's coach, even though the contract or buyout terms have not been finalized, UL athletic director Tom Jurich told ESPN.

Jurich told ESPN that Petrino told him, "I don't need anything in writing; I can trust Tom."

In the wake of the scandal, Petrino signed a four-year contract with Western Kentucky in December 2012. The deal has a base salary of $850,000 and includes clauses in which the oft-traveled coach must repay the school $1.2 million in six installments beginning a month after any early exit, while the program that hires him must agree to schedule a two-year, home-and-home series with WKU.

Interesting buyout clause.

Interesting buyout clause.

So, after taxes Patreno made under 500k, coaching there for a year, now he gets to repay them more than double that. He paid over 700k for the pleasure of coaching western kentucky. Haha

Interesting buyout clause.

I'm not sure that the home-and-home provision is enforceable since it promises something that Petrino does not have an interest in from someone who was not a party to the contract. I suppose Petrino could have negotiated that from Louisville as part of the hiring process to cover his liability to WKU.
