The amendment to Bob Huggins’ employment agreement at West Virginia, signed on May 9, contains two significant modifications to the veteran coach’s existing contract.
The first, already generally known, reduces his overall compensation for the upcoming season by $1 million, making his total pay for the upcoming 2023-24 season $3,125,000. The second, a change in the term and circumstances for continued employment, is more far-reaching and potentially more damaging.
First, the amendment ends Huggins’ employment as head coach on April 30, 2024. Any potential retention of Huggins after that date will be at the “sole and absolute discretion” of the school.
