The Ohio State University Class of '12
is the Block O just a student section that students get into with their id or is it like the Orange Krush at Illinois were you have to be some sort of member to sit there?

just wondering becuase i know that at other schools, students line up before the game becuase they get in by showing their id's and the seats are first come first serve.

Block "O"

According to Block O's website, there will be two student sections this year, one in South Stands and one in the North endzone.

Block "O" South
-Is located in section 39A where it was last year. Their main job is to perform card stunts, like this, and leading cheers for the stadium.
Block "O" North
-Is located in sections 1A and 2A. They will be wearing the traditional Block "O" capes for the entire game, and will also be responsible for helping stadium cheers.

This should add to stadium noise a good bit.

Personally, I think all students should be put together in one part of the stadium much the way Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, and Illinois do it. All of South Stands would be a good location as those are not prime seats. However, it would reduce the crowd noise the student section provides.

There isn't enough seating in the south stands for all of the students.

Block O is a seating section that you can opt to sit in when purchasing student tickets as well as the largest student organization on campus with a president and secretary and weekly meetings and all that good stuff.

You can sit in Block O without being a member of the student organization however, and as of three years ago the seating was first come first serve with the first row being filled up before anyone sat in the next row all the way up to the top of the section.

As far as I know, this is the first year where the option to sit in a Block O section in the north end of the stadium as well as in the south end has been available.

Peabody here with the way back machine... in the 60's Block O was in the north end of the horseshoe, halfway up A deck. As a frosh you got stuck with seats in sections that covered the endzone up to the 20. Once you had sophomore status (50 hours) the seat offerings were much better. Since I could, and did, get seats between the 40's in C deck I never joined. why get a shitty ticket and then have to work during the game?

I assume things are much different for today's student.

My tickets were in "Block O" my freshman year of '81. I didn't ask for them and didn't want them. Never sat there either. Sat above in "C Deck" with my brother and his wife. A tight squeeze but well worth it.

Second year I was on the goal line behind the band (where they used to be) and progressed all the way to the 50 my Sr year. It would suck not progressing.

As an alumni my first two years were in South Stands. I started giving a few bucks extra and my seats improved into the stadium until I got married and ran out of money. Now I have Direct TV watch and DVR them from home.

GO BUCKS!

I was in block O for a year and it was a blast!

It was a lot better in the North End Zone especially when they had the Greeks in the area as well. Very intimidating for other teams back then. IIRC I think we helped score a safety in the um game in 94.

Used to love when the band after their half time show would march by and play for us.

I never sat in Block 'O'. My sister was a senior in my freshman year, and had friends in the band that didn't need their student tickets, so I bought theirs. 45 yard line in '94 the year that Eddie became Eddie, and Cooper's first victory over ttun. :banger:

I like the idea of having two Block O's. I think that having loud cheering sections going into both endzones will make it even harder for opposing teams to hear inside the redzone. I also think that it will help keep the entire stadium energized. The 'Shoe gets extremely loud, but doesn't seem to have the stamina to maintain that. Energy from the students coming from both ends of the stadium might help keep a constant energy level throughout.

Even without the north endzone Block O section, the northwest corner of C-Deck (where I sat for '05 and '06) is almost entirely made up of students, so it's not like there was no student energy coming from that end of the stadium.

On the other hand, if the new Block-O section in north endzone is in the middle of some older alumni, than that could really help keep the energy up in A and AA, where being noisy is probably most affective (as apposed to students in C-deck who scream their asses off but probably don't add as much due to being so high up in the stadium).
