I am from Portsmouth, Ohio. My dad went to OSU. He was a fraternity brother of Heisman Trophy winner Les Horvath at Delta Tau Delta, back in the 1940's as well as Don McCafferty, who went on to coach the Baltimore Colts to a victory against the Cowboys in 1971. I am 48 years old. All of my life I have heard about the Ohio State Buckeyes Football team, and how great they are. All of my life I have believed it.

Now the scales have fallen fron my eyes. I am old enough to remember when the Bucks won the national title in 1968. Rex Kern...John Brockington...Jim Stillwagon...I saw'em beat Texas A&M 56 to 10 at the 'Shoe. Stillwagon broke three helmets in that game.

Then came the Teams with Corny Greene, Brian Baschnagel, Pete Johnson, and Archie Griffin.

All my life I have believed it. No More.

I am not trying to bash or pick on anyone, I'm just stating some facts.
Except for the 1968/69 Rose Bowl, and the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, where the Bucks won the game, and the National Championship both times, the Buckeyes have lost every Bowl game of major consequence.

I am wondering if it is because it's not enough that the Buckeyes win, they have to win the "Buckeye Way." I am wondering if it is because they play in the "Big 2, Little 8" conference, and beat up on teams like Northwestern all season. All I know is that "Speed Kills." I know that the past two years, the Bucks have had weeks and weeks to prepare and analyze film of their opponents. It isn't like they didn't have at least some idea of what Florida and LSU were going to throw at them. Then, game time rolls around and it is as if the Buckeyes are caught flatfooted, staring at the wide receiver who just blew by them for a TD. All I know is that what has happened the last two years is something that has actually always been true. The Pacific Coast teams, and the SEC have simply too much speed for the Bucks to deal with. That is why, with the exception of the games mentioned, they have lost every "important" bowl game they have ever played. And until and unless the Bucks start recruiting the speedier players, it is going to continue to happen.

Did you ever wonder why, with the exception of linemen, OSU players don't do well in the NFL? Remember all those "great" running backs and QBs? Well...there are only 6 Buckeyes in the NFL Hall of Fame: Sid Gillman, Lou Groza, Dante Lavelli, Jim Parker, Paul Warfield, Bill Willis. The last one, Warfield, played on the Browns and Dolphins back in the '60s and '70s. Of all the players in the last 25 years, there is only one I see that has a shot at the Hall, Eddie George.

In a recent Sports Illustrated, SI, referred to the USC Trojans as "Exposing" the Bucks as a team that didn't deservethe high ranking.
I wish the Buckeyes the best, but I am not gonna hold my breath.
Hook "em 'Horns!

Rose Bowl '97 v. ASU
Fiesta Bowl '04 v. K St.
Fiesta Bowl '06 v. ND

Those were bowl games of consequence...

Edit: Oh, you said major consequence.

Nevermind.

Your stay will be short.

It always cracks me up how people let you know what they're about to do by insisting otherwise

Oh look, the troll decided to try the logic game. Let's see how he did!

Yeah, OSU dbs really suck. Winfield, Clements, Gamble, Springs, Whitner, Plummer, and soon Jenkins.
Those WRs aren't desired by the NFL either, Galloway, Glenn, Holmes, Boston, Jenkins, Gonzalez, Ginn, etc.

Not so good, Mr. troll.
Remember all those "great" running backs and QBs?
 No, I don't remember all those great QBs. I remember good ones scattered between mediocre ones, and maybe two great ones in about 40 years. Come back when you have some idea what you're talking about.

You could at least watch sportscenter to not look like a dolt. They just had the inductions and talked about how Cris Carter was a surprising omission, but folks were happy that Monk got in instead. That Orlando Pace guy was okay at football.
All I know is that "Speed Kills."
Clearly, since you failed miserably trying to debate anything about college or pro football.

Yeah, I remember all of the slobbering from certain Texas fans about their speed. They got all they could handle, followed by way more than they wanted.

There are a slew of schools that produced more NFL talent than OSU. Let's see, there is, ah yes and..., well yep..., oh don't forget...
Miami has the most players in the NFL right now with 47.
LSU has 40.
FSU and Michigan have 39.
Georgia has 38.
Ohio State has 37.
Tennessee has 36.
Texas has 35.
USC has 33.

I wish our players weren't so slow. :(

So at this present snapshot in time, there are a grand total of 5 teams that have more players in the NFL. I don't understand why I am so high on the Buckeye program - what was I thinking?

Hail to Michigan, the leaders and the best! at grossly underdeveloping prospects, particularly at LB.

They're all back-up kickers. Don't let the numbers fool you.
