Billboard Stupidity coming to Columbus

If you are the guy who owns the billboard that these jokers will be renting, perhaps this does not seem like such a bad thing.

I kind of tried to state earlier, your maximized dollar would be to deny sale to these morons, then put up a billboard next the one that they rented stating "We declined to rent these idiots space, I guess (specific company) doesn't love the Buckeyes like we do"

Well, not to "suggest" anything, but I have a pickup that would hold, probably, well, who knows, 8, maybe 10 people in the bed, with an un-obstructed "view" one could say.....

Loaded and ready

I still say a few driveby paintballings will prove the point tremendously. There is also the billboard company that is samrt enough to turn them down and let everyone know that they did.
No billboard company in C-Bus will turn them down, because the outdoor advertising structures in C-Bus are owned by companies elsewhere. The two biggest advertisers are going to be Lamar and American, and neither of them would turn away a paying customer.

This could be good. Just park right next to the sign. Shoot away at it and pull off.

Didn't the Washington Snipers use this same idea, but from the back of the trunk?

Last I knew, Donrey was still locally run...
Donrey was bought by Eller (Clear Channel Communications) like six or seven years ago. Their leasing is done through the name Clear Channel Outdoor, and they're not as big in Columbus as Donrey was.

A buddy of mine owns a major outdoor advertising company in SE Ohio, and I play poker with him and some of his employees. Trust me, there is only ONE locally/privately owned sign shop in central/southeastern Ohio left, and the owner is a Michigan fan.

At first when I read this freakshow's web-page it pissed me off, but the more I thought about it and the more I read some of the posts on Miami's board about this subject.... I really feel very sorry for the people organizing this and who support it. I mean, I love my Buckeyes. I live for football season and I do not miss a game at home and go to a lot of the away games. Win or lose I am proud to wear my scarlet and gray. I have an extensive collection of memorabilia and my whole basement is decked out with it. My point is, I think I qualify as a fanatic. (Not that you need to meet all the above criteria to be a great fan.) But to have an obsession over a game that happened in 2002 is just pathetic. What empty lives they must lead. Nothing to fill their time but to be bitter and saving their nickels and dimes to put up a billboard that will do what? If it does go up. I will see it when I go by shake my head and hope that these people can get their collective lives together and be content with being 2nd. Move on and do something constructive. Maybe use their money raising abilities to donate to a worthy cause. Other than that, I'm pretty sure my copy of the Fiesta Bowl won't be edited. They aren't going to go to the booth for the replay official to take another look at it. (If they did I am sure they would be embarrassed by the calls they missed that would have ended the game, in our favor, in regulation. Especially the double miss on the holding call against Gamble and then calling the pass incomplete on the same play. At that point Ohio State runs the clock out and there is no over-time.) They aren't going to put an asterisk next to anything anywhere. This guy has to be near suicide. I have seen posts on the Miami board that say that "this is a pain that will never heal!" Can't help but want to send some psychologists down there to start the healing process. I mean it is like still talking about and erecting billboards about the National Championships we most likely lost by losing to Michigan in 1996 and to Michigan State in 1998. Ohio State was, arguably, the best team in the nation both of those seasons but when we needed to win... we lost. End of story. Whether you agree with the call made by Porter or not, Miami had a chance, after that, to keep the game going and possibly win. They couldn't gain 2 yards in 4 plays to tie the game back up. (Against a team that all the experts and the fans involved in this whining said had no chance to even make it a close game.) Just as Ohio State had chances to win those above mentioned games in 96 and 98. We just didn't. We reloaded and came back the next season and the next until we achieved the goal of winning the National Championship in 2002. If you are a church goer say a little prayer for these people. They really need it.

Perhaps a little positive spin on this....

We all know that Tress and the coaches put signs up all over the WHAC, locker room and weight room with the score of the Iowa game last year. I would assume that there will be some type of similar mental awarness made this year when we play Texas and Penn State. At any rate, and despite the fact that we beat Miami, I think the coaches and staff can state to the team that they are not respected or something to that effect.

The staff may feel that this trash doesnt warrant any comment at all. They may just let it go. However, if I was a captain or senior leader on a team I would use it as an excuse to get the most out of the team. As a reason not to rest on one's laurels and not to read the pre-season hype. This is a sign of disrespect and even though it might not be spoken upon publically by the OSU team or staff, should be taken as a reason to destroy their opponents and earn national respect each and every week. (Not to say that we haven't already..just a further enticement to do so on game day!)

Tressel doesn't stike me as a coach who would dwell on this. He does micromanage everything and is very intune with what's going on, so I'll venture a guess he and the staff have caught wind of this, but if he were asked point blank on the topic he'd play it down with the standard company line.

The players, on the other hand, could use this as a motivating factor. Would they? I'll guess no, but it's legit. This years seniors were red-shirts on the 2002 team. So they could use this as motivation to prove they earned OSU a legit national title with their play on the field, regardless of whether or not some people perceive their previous championship as somehow being tainted.
