BigTen Media Days - OSU #2, Hawk Preseason D POY

The Big Ten Conference announced today that Michigan has been chosen as the pre-season football favorite in a vote by media members attending the Conference's media day. The Big Ten announces only the top three teams in its pre-season poll, as Ohio State placed second and Iowa was selected third. The attending media also honored Purdue quarterback Kyle Orton as the Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year and OSU linebacker A.J. Hawk as the Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year.

Congratulations AJ!

I didn't see where OSU only had 1 first place vote on that link. I think you are talking about the independent media poll that is on the news links at Bucknuts. I personally have a lot more faith in the opposing coaches opinion than in the media. I would be interested in seeing the coaches poll stats if y'all come up with em somewhere.

I was talking about the media poll. I haven't seen anything about a coaches poll. I think the link at the top of this thread refers to the media poll as well.

Here's the voting breakdown from the Columbus Dispatch/1460TheFan. The first link is from the official BigTen web site. Both links are listed on the front page here at BuckeyePlanet.

The BigTen Media Days run 2 more days. I believe the coaches generally make their picks in that timeframe.

The results listed from the Chicago Sun Times must NOT be the information/poll the BigTen is using. This poll shows Wisconsin 3rd, while the BigTen lists Iowa 3rd in their report. Make of it what you will.

OSU got only one first place vote (compared to something like 10 for Michigan), and I think a couple of people picked OSU to finish 3rd or worse.
Assuming that the media poll gave 11 points for 1st down to 1 point for 11th (and the total # of points in the poll seems to support that), that'd be correct.

11 2nd-place votes would be 110 points. More to the point, 10 2nd-place and 1 1st-place vote would be 111, and we have only 103. Therefore, either we got 1 1st, 9 2nds, and 1 10th place vote....or, more likely, at least 2 people put us 3rd or lower.

On the other hand, Michigan clearly has 10 1sts and 1 2nd...and on the other end, Indiana has 10 last-place votes and 1 next-to-last.
