HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPARISON

Lemon-Monroe Hornets
65%pass/35%run
#1 Offense Pass Game-Edit: They run the spread offense with 5 Linemen, 3 WRs, 2RBs(WVU offense basically) and Led by Senior QB#18(6-3,195LBS)-3rd Year Starter with playoff experience to state semi final in 2005 against Coldwater, 141-of-243 passes for 2,112 yards and 20 touchdowns. Monroe runs a spread offense. Will run with empty backfield and 5 WR's at a time. WR'S WITH SPEED : Target #1=WR#2(6-3,190LBS), Target #2=WR#9(6-0,195LBS), Target #3=WR#21-(6-0,175LBS)

#2 Offense Run Game-Power RB/FB#12@6-2, 225lbs-(1,075yds,18tds.) speed not a concern but relys on sheer power to average almost 10yds per carry: The QB also likes to give the RB the dump pass at least once every other set of downs. The QB is also a mobile threat as he has rushed for 8 tds.

#3 Offensive Line-great pass protection.

#4 Defense - I have not watched film but from what I have read that Monroe runs a 3-4 base defense. BUTI have heard through chatter that they will mix it up with a 3-4 and a 3-3-5 with only one linemen down and there others up.

Sorry this is late!

My take against the spread offense: Not to say this is my game plan for Big Walnut but it would be my game plan for Ohio State should they play another spread offense. Have MLB mirror the QB parallel to the line of scrimmage(stay home and don't bite inside the gaps). Don't even watch the fakes just stay with the QB. OLB and ILB take the back whichever side they line up on. Stay with the RB parallel to LOS and don't get caught in traffic inside). CB's play man tight and S help picking up a double team on a inside slant or even blitz every few downs to put pressure. Or gang tackling behind the LBs should the runner come into the secondary.

GO Eagles!

Turkey Day and football

And we will, also. As fans, parents and supporters, we’ll remember The Big Walnut ’07 run deep into the annals of high school football history. And we’ll give thanks, too. Thanks for giving us something to cheer for. Thanks for giving us something to strive for; something that can and has truly inspired us.

Hornets will have a challenge in Columbus area school when teams face off in state semis.

Eagles ride Jones to Canton

Delaware Gazette

Big Walnut, on the strength of a 21-7 victory over Monroe Friday night at Lima Stadium, has a 3 p.m. date with Newark Licking Valley in its first-ever OHSAA Division III State Championship game appearance next Friday afternoon at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium.

“Once Derek turned the corner in front of our bench I knew he had a chance to go all the way,” coach Wetzel said. “He’s one of the fastest players on our team … he just outran everyone to the end zone.”

Dayton Daily News

Sunbury Big Walnut delivered hit after hit against Monroe's high-powered offensive attack in Friday night's Division III state semifinal game.

Osterman, who finished 9-of-23 for 77 yards, had only thrown four interceptions in 277 attempts coming into the game, but Big Walnut picked him off three times.

The Communtiy has come together with all of these kids. From the kids that start to tthe kids that are still learning on the sideline. Everyone of them has earned this title shot. They have busted their asses week-in and week-out. They are up at the crack of dawn following going through the motions, they are hittin it hard in the weight room, they are doing everything they possibly can and their overall success is a testament.

THANK YOU EAGLES! I have had a blast following you young men this year. You have all inspired the next generation of young football players. They all want to be like the football team. The support you all gave the young kids of the conmmunity by showing up at the youth football games on Saturday and signing autograophs have made such an impact. My kids don't want to be like Tony Romo or Tom Brady, they want to be like Ethan Wetzel.

Congrats again and I like the idea that we have 1 FINAL STEP. Us fans and parents one last step in supporting you guys and you have one last step to BEAT Licking Valley and claim your Crown! GO BIG NUT!

Big Walnut defense is difference in D-III semifinal win over Monroe
Big Walnut was backed up against its own goal line all night. But the Eagles defense didn’t break – and barely bent.
