Big Ten Network to air documentary on the 2006 Ohio State-Michigan game: "The Game of the Century"

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Most people can't believe it's been 10 years since the 2006 Ohio State-Michigan game, a matchup between two undefeated teams in perhaps the most intense rivalry in college football.

The game was dubbed, "The Game of the Century."

Now you can relive it.

The Big Ten Network is airing a documentary on that game called "The Game: 2006 ...Remembered," which is set to air at 9:00 p.m. Monday following the men's basketball matchup between Ohio State and Western Carolina. After the documentary, the network will also air an enhance replay of the game itself.

Part of the documentary will dive into the death of legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, who died on the eve of the game. Before becoming the most iconic coach in Michigan history, Schembechler played for legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes at Miami (OH) and later joined Hayes at Ohio State as part of his coaching staff.

People featured in the documentary include both head coaches from the game, Michigan's Lloyd Carr and Ohio State's Jim Tressel; Ohio State's Troy Smith and James Laurinaitis; Michigan's LaMarr Woodley and Mike Hart.

Current head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer and former Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell, who was an Ohio State assistant Jim Tressel that year, are featured.

ESPN's College GameDay heading to the Big Ten championship

They’re heading to the Big Ten championship in Indianapolis, where No. 6 Wisconsin will take on No. 7 Penn State at 8 p.m. ET (FOX) in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Just sayin': I would have thought that ESPN College Game Day would have gone to the ACC game in lieu of hyping a competitor's (i.e. rival network) game.

Pac-12: Washington vs. Colorado, 9 p.m. Friday at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA. (FOX)

SEC: Alabama vs. Florida, 4 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA. (CBS)

Big 10: Penn State vs. Wisconsin, 8 p.m. Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN. (FOX)

ACC: Clemson vs. Virginia Tech, 8 p.m. Saturday at Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL. (ABC)

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma
Saturday – 12:30 p.m. ET (FOX)

REPORT: BIG TEN ‘LIKELY TO SCALE BACK’ PLANNED FRIDAY NIGHT GAMES

81282_h.jpg,qitok=0ZvLNLFW.pagespeed.ce.lIyrt6hvYH.jpg

The Big Ten announced plans in November to play games on Friday night, starting in 2017. It wasn't well received outside of conference and television network offices.

Five months later, the Big Ten is having second thoughts. Dan Murphy of ESPN.com reported Monday the Big Ten moved two Northwestern games scheduled for Friday nights this fall to Saturday.

More interesting, however, is this:

A conference official told ESPN on Monday that moving forward, the league is likely to scale back even further to two or three Friday night games after the opening week per year.

Northwestern begs out of Big Ten Friday night TV duty

488198252-e1491243650457.jpg

Northwestern was slated for two of the eight Friday games in 2017, but Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald revealed Monday Northwestern will instead play none. From the Chicago Tribune:

But Fitzgerald’s 2017 team also received what the coach called “great news” — it will not have to play two Big Ten games on Friday night.

In November the Big Ten announced it had added Friday night games, including NU at Maryland (Oct. 13) and Michigan State at NU (Oct. 27).

Fitzgerald has been strongly opposed to Friday games because they can detract from high school football and disrupt his players’ class and practice schedules. Many NU fans also were outspoken in their opposition, citing Friday work schedules, traffic and the inability to have enough time to tailgate.

The league listened, with a Big Ten source saying it heard from university leadership at Northwestern regarding all the “unintended consequences” that accompany Friday night games.

BIG TEN NETWORK TO FEATURE OHIO STATE'S RUSHMEN ON SPORTS LITE WITH MIKE HALL THIS FALL

DDQidsNXsAAEyjI.jpg.pagespeed.ce.z5aHozpI-l.jpg

ou already know what Ohio State's Rushmen package of Tyquan Lewis, Jalyn Holmes, Sam Hubbard and Nick Bosa do to opposing offenses in passing situations. But how do they act off the field with one another?

You'll find out this fall.

Big Ten Network filmed a segment with the four members of Larry Johnson's fabled pass rushing unit, which wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks during the 2016 season, on Monday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. It is set to be featured on "Sports Lite with Mike Hall." Hall tweeted the piece is set to air sometime this fall.

Since this thread go bumped, I find that the "Classic Games" series they air is an interesting way to get a perspective on just how good your team really is. (Classic games for a team of course, are games that were won by the team for whom it is a "classic".)

If you watch OSU classic games (I have 17 on tape) you will see us playing either 1) a championship game of some sort, 2) a game against a top 10 opponent, or 3) Michigan. Michigan makes up roughly half the list.

If you watch Michigan classic games you will see them playing a lot of good teams, but not for championships and almost never against Ohio State.

If you watch any other BIGs Classic games you have an excellent chance of seeing them play Michigan.

Also, if you turn it on and catch Ohio State playing some crump-hole team, there's a really good chance that Ohio State is going to lose. If you see Ohio State vs. Illinois, for example, it's probably 2007. Ohio State vs. Purdue? It's probably 2011.

Because every Ohio State loss is somebody else's Classic Game.

That is who we are.
