Petway got the ?do before the Wolverines played No. 1-ranked Ohio State on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. "It was sort of special for Ohio State," Petway said. "It?s a good little football rivalry, so I thought why not bring a little bit of it to basketball? "

Drew Neitzel scored 20 points and Travis Walton hit two free throws with 10.4 seconds left to lead Michigan State over Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament yesterday in the United Center in Chicago. The Spartans? Goran Suton shot an air ball with 11 seconds left. Northwestern?s Jeremy Nash grabbed the rebound and threw a pass to Craig Moore, who was not looking. The ball sailed out of bounds, erasing the Wildcats? last chance.

Alando Tucker, limited to three free throws in the opening half, made four three-pointers in the second half last night and Wisconsin won a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal in Chicago. Tucker, the league?s player of the year, finished with 21 points ? his 39 th straight game in double figures ? and the Badgers (28-4) advanced to a semifinal today against Illinois.

He set the school?s career scoring record and finished with 21 points to lead No. 3 Wisconsin past Illinois 53-41 in a conference semifinal yesterday.
