Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament

I keep wondering whether OSU actually got the short end of the stick by getting the #5 seed in the BTT. That is, assuming a team like UM who won today in the BTT loses tomorrow and OSU loses tomorrow, will UM get more credit in the eyes of the committee from the BTT because it won a game there, even though the two teams made it just as far? It seems like UM could benefit from having been the inferior team of the two this season because it got to play an additional game against a lousy opponent.

We could make that all moot by winning tomorrow but I see your point. If scUM and PSU get bids and we don't (should we lose) there would definitely need to be some rethinking of the BTT format.

Personally, I'd like to see it be the top 8 teams in the conference, Friday-Sunday. Teams 9-11 would be left out and team 8 would have to beat team 1 to advance. The current format does afford an opportunity to a bubble sitting 6th seed, as PSU is showing today.

I seriously doubt if sCum or PSU get into the dance and we don't when we had beaten both of them during the regular season. The Committee has to take that into consideration.

I don't think you will see the Big 10 dropping any teams from the tournament. The Big East did that for a few years and now they are back to all of them playing. After this year, I really don't think that there will be many bubble teams in the Big 10 with the exception of Indiana:tongue2: next year and Northwestern probably forever. Also, I don't know how good PSU is going to be in coming years.

In a hypothetical situation where two teams only played once and the home team won, I could potentially see the losing road team getting a bid over the winning home team. However, I can't foresee a situation where a team wins both ends of a home and home yet misses out on a bid to the losing team (given that they have similar profiles).

I dont see how you can put scUM in the tourney over Ohio State, Ohio State finished higher in the conference AND was 2-0 against them in the regular season

same thing with Wisconsin, higher in the conference and 2-0 vs scUM in the regular season

I knew OSU played michigan twice this year. I haven't really looked at psu's profile though I did hear they played a really weak OOC schedule. My comment was more directed towards a thought that you could not lose a bid to a team that you beat. If you beat a team twice then they're not likely to get selected ahead of you. But if you beat a team only once and it was a home game for you, then it's much more possible that they could be selected over you. This is all likely a moot point as I don't see any way OSU is left out of the field. Nor do I see any way michigan or psu would be ahead of OSU in the committee's view.
