Big Ten Conference Divisions

Gordon Gee said:
We want to beat them twice.

With all due respect to the president, that's an idiotic statement designed to make our emotions trump our brains.

If we play them again in the CCG, then the THE GAME was meaningless no matter who won it.

It seems obvious that Delany's interest is not to improve the tSUN/tOSU rivalry but to improve revenue and conference quality. This kind of move would certainly be in line with the latter, even if it is at the cost of taking half of a notch off of The Game.

I agree that Delany is looking at the green.
I don't necessarily agree that Delany is looking at conference quality.
I definitely don't agree that splitting tOSU-Michigan into two different divisions and moving the game only takes a notch off.

It's a dead horse, but I can't for the life of me find any compelling argument to dismantling THE GAME as it stands now. IF both teams are kept in the same division; then it doesn't have to change. What's wrong with keeping it relatively intact?

I haven't said much on this debate, because I don't think it's much of a debate.

Ohio State plays Michigan during the last Big Ten weekend. There is NO reason for that to change...and if anybody with the power to change it ever did, then they would have just ruined the greatest thing college football has to offer.

Bo and Woody are rolling in their graves knowing that this is even being discussed.

This debate is gross.

Beating m*ch*g*n is paramount for ALL Buckeyes.

FWIW

I understand what you're writing. I was simply presenting it that particular way, because I know there are a number of Buckeyes that would take a NC over beating Michigan. I don't count myself amongst that group as beating Michigan takes precedence over everything else for me.

Anyone else remember how bad of an idea the Big Ten Network was? Perhaps Jimmy D. is a bit arrogant riding the success that network is realizing and thinks he can do the same with the splitting of divisions.

I think it's getting a bit old to sit and have the same recycled conversations over and over of how bad of an idea this was. I am firmly in the camp that thinks this is going to diminish The Game. Change is inevitable, at times for worse, at times for the better. I think it's a little premature to call this a disastrous merger as a whole. Let's step back from the cliff and wait until we actually start to see some concrete plans come out before we all jump.

Last time I checked the Buckeyes will be 1-0 at this time next week, with a HUGE battle with the Canes looming....

:oh:

I'm working on an email to President Gee that i'll probably copy over to Gene Smith

Among the arguments that have been made on this forum already, I decided I'd explore the possibility of a tOSU-Michigan Big Ten Championship rematch assuming that they would meet earlier in the regular season and would still have a chance to meet again in the post season.

I went back and looked at all of the conference championship games held by the SEC, Big 12 and ACC

Out of 37 total conference championship games between the 3 leagues, only 14 of those have been rematches of a game held during that regular season. That isn't very good odds for a rematch period if you ask me, let alone between 2 specific teams, I would argue that because your taking a loss to the team in the cross divisional game that it puts you up against it getting back into the championship game.

And for the record, the percentage of rematches by conference goes inverse from strongest to weakest, SEC with the least rematches % wise, Big 12 in the middle, and ACC with the most rematches % wise

I seriously do not think any of the administrators (Delany, Gee, Smith) read the e-mails and are disregarding the current period completely as just a nuisance while they implement their plan regardless of public opinion.

Experiment
You could try an experiment by creating a mult e-mail and saying you're going to streak the Marshall game or something with "Save the Michigan Game" painted on your body. See if they respond with anything but a template response such as "Thank you for your concern."

It's kind of like the black stripe on the sleeve in 2006. Public outcry eventually died down and I imagine the administrators expect people will adjust and just live with the change.

I still think the only way to get a point across are mass boycotts of events and pulling of donations.

If we could beat Georgia and lose the SEC every year, I'd take that. [censored] Georgia. Beating Georgia and winning the SEC is sweet. But if I had a choice of losing to them and winning the conference, or beating them and not winning the conference, I'd take beating those assholes every time.

I can't imagine a division realignment that had in it even the remotest possibility of us beating the leg-humpers in TWLOCP - and then losing to them a couple weeks later in a conference championship game. Mind numbing. The. Worst. Thing. Ever.

The thought of that brings instant empathy from me. I am truly and genuinely sorry for all y'all if this "different division than the skunkbears" thing becomes a reality.

I can only put the teams we played. Isn't Penn State, Wisky, Iowa and Michigan and MSU not acceptable? Are they not in the Big 10?

By the way, during the same period we are 11-3-1 against the SEC with 3 wins agains LSU, 2 wins against Florida and a couple against Tennessee, including beating Peyton Manning. The three losses were to 2006 Auburn, 2002 Ole Miss and 1975 Alabama. Is that superior against the SEC???

Against the SEC? Yes. Against the Big-10???? NO!! Troll!!! :p

So, to figure out where I fall in the spectrum, how much of a traitorous heathen am I if I don't see The Game as, "the greatest thing college football has to offer."?
