Big Ten Basketball Thread

Someone explain this to me please. Painter is a Purdue grad coaching at his alma mater, and I don't think Missouri is a better job than Purdue. They have never reached a Final Four and their head coach just left for Arkansas. Why would Painter take this?

Cuonzo Martin is also a Purdue alum, and he'd rather be at Tennessee.

He accepted that job before Painter's supposed departure, was he even spoken to about the Purdue job? It's unknown if that statement is true.

But to answer the question, I think it just comes down to schools commitment... that being mostly finacial, almost doubling your salary isn't too shabby.

IndyStar reporting deal not done yet, and Purdue has upped Painter's contract to keep him.

Interesting, because both Bernie Mizlasz at St Louis Post-Dispatch and Jeff Rabjohn's at IndyStar are respected reporters with officials at both Universities on speed dial. Somebody's getting fed a load.

I've got to think Painter stays at Purdue if they upped him to $2M+.

This pissed me off. Martin has done an excellent job, even though it's been a pain trying to get into the NCAA. Why take a job at s school that's going to be in some trouble in the near future, unless it's because of money?

Sounds like Painter and his agent are using the Mizzou opening to negotiate a nice raise at Purdue.
