Big Ten Basketball Thread

Observations: Michigan vs. Wisconsin

1. Michigan, after a hot first half, returns to reality in the second half. Beilein magic works again!

2. If I were an NBA GM, Jon Leuer would be on my first-round wish list. This kid is essentially a 6-10 point guard (not surprising, since he played the one in HS before his big growth spurt). Love his game.

3. Badgers are the whitest team in America. No, seriously. Even their African-American players look all bleached out somehow. Strange phenomenon.

4. Bo Ryan and his 55-possessions-per-game will ruin college basketball unless something drastic is done.

5. Even with the soporific pace of the game, Gus Johnson makes it eminently watchable. Simply the best basketball announcer ever. Girls' hoop (WNBA) should pay Gus $40 million a year to be their announcer for all televised games; then maybe somebody would watch them. (How the hell did the Big Ten Network get him under contract? I'm sure glad they did.)
5 for 5.

Agree with every observation. Jim Jackson called Leuer the best all-around player in the Big10 on one of the BTN's shows, his partner took David Lighty. Both of them fill the stat sheet (especially considering Bo Ryan's system).

Purdue handled Penn State at Bryce Jordan, 83-68. They keep chugging along. Got good contributions from a number of players. Talor Battle is going to wear down, if he has already. Fun to watch, but he just can't do it all. Minutes played his last 7 games- 40, 35, 40, 40, 40, 40, 39. :yow1:

Gus Johnson - I love that man!

Beautiful line. The following man, Mike Bruesewitz, goes to the bench after some fine 6th-man play:

Shon Morris, Johnson's color man, asks the snarky question, "Who did he dress up as on Halloween?" and answers himself, "Little Orphan Annie."

Johnson simply deadpans, "Hard knock life."

:slappy:

One more comment here: if Thad Matta were coaching the talent that is currently on the Wolverine team, they'd be at worst the 5th-best team in the league, and might be as high as 3rd. Horford, Hardaway Jr., Morris - there's some real juice there that Beilein is utterly wasting. Michigan's recent tradition of absolute dogshit coaching continues.
