Kansas should drop football and join the Big East.

The logical thing for these schools being squeezed out would be to drop back to FCS or Div II football while maintaining Div I status in mens and womens basketball. Works fine for Villanova. Works for the Ivy League too. U Conn is probably the poster child for not moving up to the FBS level. They're less competitive in the new AAC than they were in the old, crippled Big East after Miami, VTech, and BC left. They're losing ten million a year sponsoring football and their athletic department is over $40mm in debt.

The rest will band together out of self preservation because the SEC has shown they are out to fuck you over by their duplicitous behavior during the playoff expansion talks.

????? All I’m saying is that not expanding the playoffs is not in most conferences’ best interests, given four slots and the SEC shill of ESPN doing its best to bump SEC selections. Helping themselves should trump screwing the SEC, but we will see soon enough.

????? All I’m saying is that not expanding the playoffs is not in most conferences’ best interests, given four slots and the SEC shill of ESPN doing its best to bump SEC selections. Helping themselves should trump screwing the SEC, but we will see soon enough.

1) It has been said numerous times here that our position is that there are 4 remaining power conferences. The champion of each should get in the playoff. The end. The SEC gets one in that scenario. Whether the powers that be will try to make this happen or not is very much beside the point. It is what we have said that we want.
2) The SEC getting 2 of 4 is not why they took Oklahoma (and UT). They were hoping to get 7 of 12. They were making a grab for power and money that was/is good for them and bad for every other conference. It is in the other conferences' best interests to limit the SEC's power/money, especially where it will not hurt themselves. Having the SEC get 7 of 12 does mean that more teams from other conferences get in, but it also means that ESPN/SEC dominance of the decisions and the money grows. The fact that more teams from other conferences now also get a team in the playoffs does not mean that the SEC power and money share will not grow. If you do not see it that way, please say so. I will ban you to ensure that you do not continue to speak while the adults are trying to have a conversation.
3) The SEC did this while the teams they were talking to were smiling in the faces of their Big XII compatriots while sensitive Big XII information was discussed. Talk all you want about how "legal" that is. The rest of us understand that there is a big difference between legal and being a decent human being. ESPN is vile. The SEC are behaving exactly like the moral progeny of the slave-holding south.

Bless your heart. Do what you want to big guy. I’m your Huckleberry.

DBB- I’m going back through the years and trying to find a scenario where, if a 12 team playoff exhausted, 7 SEC teams would have gotten invited (6 plus Oklahoma using future configurations).

Your position is well argued, but 7 teams is a bit hyperbolic, no?

Being an asshole in lieu of presenting an argument. Tedious, yes. Huckleberry, no.
I appreciate that you deem yourself the spokesperson of the Big-12, PAC-12, ACC and what remains of the Big-12. And yet, there is also the slight possibility that one of them have a different view than you. Maybe other conferences have their own opinions and agendas. Weird, I know.

OTOH, if you are so easily triggered that your analysis of a rather benign discussion about 2021 playoff slot expansion leads you to insert a ban threat on anyone who disagrees with you (complete with insult about chattel slavery) into the response, I can look at the issue of a person being an asshole in lieu of presenting an argument in an entirely new light.

Don’t take this personally, but you no longer have my vote for Moderator of the Month.

There weren't 7 spots for ESECPN to shoot for. Those rankings would change if they could've gotten 7 in.

you obviously know I was talking about this board and I don’t think I speak for any of those conferences. But of course you are being disingenuous, you have no argument here

and no, I’m not triggered. Claiming that I am is yet another proxy for an argument. Because again, there is no legitimate argument for your side. Your continual use of proxies for arguments is better proof of this than anyone else has provided.

Let’s be clear. Once again the south is in a morally indefensible place. I do not respect your position. If you continue to be arrogant from a position of moral and intellectual inferiority… yes, I will ban your worthless ass. Not because I’m triggered, but because you are tedious.

Don’t take this personally, but your ability to sound condescending while you completely avoid making any cogent arguments is not a talent I respect. It is yet another of your moral failings.

Committee names the playoff seeds. Not rankings. Am I wrong?

Yeah, you are wrong; for the purpose of the playoff ranking the CFP Selection Committee does their own rankings:

2. Principles
The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
  • Conference championships won,
  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head‐to‐head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
3. Voting Process
The voting process generally will include seven rounds of ballots through which the committee members first will select a small pool of teams to be evaluated, then will rank those teams, with the top‐ranked teams being placed in the rankings in groups of three or four. Individual committee members’ rankings will be compiled into a composite ranking. Each committee member will independently evaluate an immense amount of information during the process. This evaluation will lead to individual qualitative and quantitative opinions that will inform each member’s votes.

4. Number of Teams to Be Ranked
The committee will rank 25 teams. If no champion of a non‐contract conference is among that group on Selection Day, then the committee will compare the five conference champions against each other. The highest ranked of those five teams will be the representative.

9. Pairings for Semifinals
a.
The team ranked No. 1 by the selection committee will play team No. 4 in the semifinals. Team No. 2 will meet team No. 3.

b. When assigning teams to sites, the committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home‐crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.
