Competitive or not, they've managed to get into the playoffs twice despite not playing/winning a conference championship game. That's two more than Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State. Might have something to do with the fact that Michigan is the only team they've played during the regular season out of the three. Might also have something to do with the fact that they've not played Ohio State during the regular season.

I understand what you're saying. But my premise is that ND gets into the playoffs (& perpetually shits the bed) solely because of their name and NOT because of merit.

That's the type of knee jerk reaction that would be disastrous, in the long run, to all parties involved.

I don't disagree, but it seems like the trend is to shrink the total number of teams in power conferences rather than bring in new members. The PAC-12 could help shrink membership by cherry picking a few teams and leaving the remaining Big 12 members behind, presumably to join the AAC or Mountain West.

No new membership is going to save the Big 12 and the Pac 12 shouldn't be taking the dregs of the Big12 unless they want to make their situation worse. I don't know why people keep trying to put those together when there is little history or benefit. From the Pac12 standpoint the scheduling alliance with the Big 10 that got nuked years ago is their best option. USC etc probably still prefer getting poached by the Big 10 though

I could see Texas Tech to the PAC, but I don't see what the private schools, or the great plains schools bring to the table for them. I would think it would make more sense to take Texas Tech, Truck Driver U and one or both Nevada schools to pull in the growing (lol) Idaho market, and the Las Vegas Metro. If only one Nevada School, maybe a New Mexico school to connect geographically. That gets them to 16.

I do think WVU to the ACC has some merit, in that it would allow the ACC to renegotiate their TV contract, potentially for more money.
