But....but....but, it just seems like Mr. Kiernan just wants to run the place like a business.

Sounds like you have quite a few board members who have no appreciation for the liberal arts central role in any great university and would turn it into a glorified DeVry given half a chance.

I would imagine that Mr. Jefferson is spinning quite rapidly at the moment.

Yes, we are all pissed about this. It was very shady.

It's interesting to compare the outrage from a group of PhDs who are angry that the Board of Visitors is actively working against the academic excellent of the school with that of FSU & Clemson fans "t'aint no advantage being associated with good schools when we could make fur million a year more in football if we 'twas in the Big 12!".

Even thinking about getting rid of the Classics department is just idiotic. I have to imagine that Sullivan's suggestion that the University was in danger of slipping in the rankings rubbed some of the board the wrong way. There are a lot of people who think that UVA can do no wrong - I was never one of them, but, then again, I only went there for law school. They really do need to bolster some of their programs, which I think they would be better able to do as a member of the B1G, but, hey...what do I know...

Well, UVA is one of the 10 or so schools that considers itself to be "the Harvard of the South" Of course, that is like bragging that you have the biggest dick in Japan.

UT Mouthpiece Chip Brown claiming ND is putting their olympic sports in the Big 12: Take it with a grain of salt...

http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1377426

Texas message boards have been talking about this for what seems like months. Texas's AD supposedly told everyone in the Big XII to hold on with the expansion efforts when FSU and Clemson were ready to jump ship to the conference. Texas wanted to wait for ND, because if they were to join first, it would keep any teams that wouldn't add much to the conference (like Louisville) from joining the conference.

The talk at that time was that ND was going to wait until after there was a final ruling on the new replacement for the BCS system before they decided whether they would join a conference or not. That decision isn't to terribly far away...

I'm work in an applied science in fisheries and aquatic sciences. I've never been sure where I stand on departments or programs that aren't solvent such as those that might be in the liberal arts. I appreciate them, but on the opposite end, I see programs that are solvent get cut or reduced to keep liberal arts programs in the mix at schools.

I'm unaware of UVa's specific predicament but its not uncommon across the country from what I have read.

Just posted this on scout but...

If the SEC adds teams as does the B12 and the ACC/Big East folds for football, what if the B1G and PAC 12 stay put at 12 teams? There is no reason that the number has to be 64, They could send the conference champ just as easily with 56 teams.

Holy mother of God. No words:

And the absolutely amazing parody:

Is the original worse than this gem?

Probably not, but hell, it was worth trying.
