Don't get me wrong I'm no fan of that city either but at least it's people are diluted by a constant influx of immigrants and tend to stay safely cocooned in their island prison.

Just doing some random forum snooping, the synopsis that I've seen so far is: Rutgers is excited, Maryland is diverse in its opinion, UNC is talking positively about it due to Delaney's alum relationship there, and a few think that UNC and UVA will be joining within the next two years.

I hadn't gotten around to peeping the UNC forums yet. I'm actually somewhat surprised that they idea is getting pub from their fans.

Virginia fan reaction to the possibility seems pretty mixed. Some in favor but a lot of resistance to the loss of tradition; which is understandable given how VA stills holds onto it's southerness as a badge of honor. We just aren't as far along breeding them out as in Maryland.

"Excited" is an understatement for the Rutgers fans. They're deliriously happy. Maryland fans seem to be trending more positively as well. The folks in favor have done a good job of outlining the benefits and the press conference by Delaney & Co made a strong impression.

I was thinking more like North Carolina and Georgia Tech, but it's all the same. It'll probably be a combination of the three.

It seems like the push to 16 is definitely happening though.

That whole East Coast satellite-conference office doesn't make sense for just Maryland and Rutgers. And if you're UNC, you have a chance to bury Duke and NC State financially.

The speculation seems to be that UNC, GT, UVA and BC (wtf?) are all in the running. Lots of chatter on twitter about UNC and UVA having offers in hand, but I doubt that.

BC would be an easy get, but they don't really bring much to the equation unless the B1G really values the Boston market. Yeah, they are somewhat highly regarded academically, but they don't do much research and their sports programs are mediocre-at-best. After them, GT and UVA would likely be the most likely to leave. UNC is going to be tough to pry loose without further defections.

I would go after UVA, and see what happens. UVA has had a bit of financial trouble recently, and the academic benefits of being in the COC should be very attractive to them.

That's why Delaney took MD. He was calling the ACC out on the exit fee. MD gets out for a fraction of that, the SEC and BigWhatever will poach other teams, but schools like UVA &UNC won't be listening to the other conferences.
