I like the breakdown and do think it will help recruiting. However, I think we are going to see 2 more institutions added in the next 6 months and PODS by 2014.

To revisit (with Virginia and Maryland swapped per suggestion):

Pod 1
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Purdue
Rutgers

Pod 2
Michigan
Michigan State
Northwestern
Maryland

Pod 3
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota
Indiana

Pod 4
Penn State
Illinois
Virginia
North Carolina/Georgia Tech

Pod 1 never grouped with Pod 2 for a season schedule, Pod 3 never grouped with Pod 4 for a season schedule.

With two pods combined, that would give each team 7 conference games, so there is room for two crossovers with the pods you're not grouped with (possibly both going to the pod that you never play) that year (some protected, like OSU vs. tsun, of course) and three OOC games.

Things I like about this: Penn State would never not play either Ohio State/Wisconsin or tsun/tsun State despite being grouped in the "newbie" pod and therefore the Big Ten conspiracy to hold them down continues. Throw in a "protected" crossover game with Nebraska every season for extra laughs. Also, the same thing applies to Nebraska as far as always playing the top teams from pod 1 or pod 2 since pod 3 and pod 4 are relatively weak in comparison. The "protected" crossover with Penn State actually makes sense as it bumps up their sos as the top teams in the "weak" pods.

Things I don't like about this: Ohio State tied to Rutgers every season (Georgia Tech might be better in this regard simply for the guaranteed game down south every other year) and the game against tsun State taking a huge hit since the 'protected' crossover game with tsun would take away opportunities to play them frequently (always playing the two crossover games against that pod would help out somewhat).

You have to make some sacrifices though, and in my opinion that is about the best possible scenario.

I have zero confidence the Big Ten will do anything remotely similar if they do manage to raid the ACC for a +4 expansion.

Under the rules I set up, these are the yearly schedules it would take for OSU to cycle through every conference opponent.

Year 1 (Pod 1 vs Pod 3)
OOC
OOC
OOC
Wisconsin
Purdue
Rutgers
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota
Indiana
Northwestern
tsun

Year 2 (Pod 1 vs Pod 4)
OOC
OOC
OOC
Wisconsin
Purdue
Rutgers
Penn State
Illinois
Virginia
North Carolina/Georgia Tech
tsun State
tsun

Year 3 (Pod 1 vs Pod 3)
OOC
OOC
OOC
Wisconsin
Purdue
Rutgers
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota
Indiana
Maryland
tsun

Positives: OSU vs. tsun is protected every year, we hit the NYC market every year against Rutgers (would be a great alumni road trip), each team is only off the schedule for a maximum of two years which matches the current system.

Negatives: tsun State game would only be once every three years, Penn State and Nebraska would only be every other year

Thinking out loud, if you went to 18 teams you could do six 3-team pods, throw Ohio State, tsun and someone else in the same pod for two protected games a year and really go crazy on the scheduling.

I don't feel like figuring out how many years it would take to rotate through that mess right now though.

1. Geographically Wisky should move to The Legends.

2. That may give Ohio State a recruiting advantage over the B1G Legends Division schools on the east coast. Any comments?

Yes, they should. Although, Wisconsin does a lot of recruiting in New Jersey, so this may help.

It is not just football recruiting, the NY, NJ, MD, & DC area has a ton of great HS basketball players, etc.

Don't like Rutgers as part of the deal but hey, you always need another Illinois/Purdue/Minnesota type game on your schedule right?
Not sure there is anyone else that can bring the viewership that Rutgers can.. Who else brings the TriState viewing? that's BIG

Another area of significance.. is that these two enhance the scholastic side of the B10 also...their national rankings (#58 & #68) will look good on the masthead

Maryland fans learn how awesome the Big Ten is 20 minutes after joining the conference.

I'M WATCHING THIS ON MY PHONE!!! IN HD!!!!11!1111!!!one

The production values are so, so, so much better than Raycom Sports. This is like when the alien spaceship landed in Close Encounters. I'm in awe, and getting more excited by the minute.

I've been watching btn for 15 minutes and the btn just gave us more props in those 15 minutes than the ACC did in 50 years.

The assumption is being made that they CAN bring that viewing. The BTN will still have to negotiate itself into those markets..and Rutgers is not the Yankees. The move doesn't come without risk although the powers that be obviously think that they can make this happen.

I honestly am astounded how good the BTN is. Everyone on so far has been articulate and made very good points in a logical way. They must be professionals or something. Better than any espn show I've seen. I'm being 100 percent serious.

LOL, they'll fit in nicely! FUCK ESPN...

It seems like if we are talking about the big boys like Direct, Dish, and TWC the deals have already been negotiated. It just depends how they covered expansion in the current contracts.

Man, maybe I'm completely wrong...but I hate this move.

Maryland? Sweet. Lets weaken the B1G some more. Same with Rutgers.

I know, it's a business and so one, but damn. Neither of those teams will ever compete for a National Championship in football, and only have a slight chance at one in basketball.

So, we now have Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, and Rutgers as teams that aren't a national threat.

Oh, yeah, lets add in UNC so we can have a school that, again, is a bad football school with MAJOR issues in terms of compliance (Didn't something just come out AGAIN about academic fraud?).

Ultimately, this doesn't make the B1G any more competitive, and may even water it down.

EDIT: Lets go get Clemson and Florida State. Hahaha

Loh announces that Maryland will immediately move to begin reinstating the sports programs they've recently cut due to budget. Becomes first University President in the Expansionpalooza era to stand up there and say, 'we need the money.'

Btw, on Big Ten money: Northwestern recently announced plans for a new $220 million athletic complex. Northwestern. Quarter billion dollars. NORTHWESTERN. http://www.schoolconstructionnews.c...rn-university-announces-new-athletics-complex
Michigan is building a $40 million indoor rowing center. Indoor rowing center. For women?s crew. Indoor rowing center for $40 million. In which women will row. Indoors.

When this is done, on what channel can I find the ACC's rebuttal?
They are carving one side out of a cardboard box at ACC Headquarters so Swofford can pretend to be on television.
