I believe ND desperately clinging to being a "national program" rather than embracing the fact that they are a regional Midwest team since the at least the early 90's has hurt them.

They absolutely cannot beat local teams in California, Texas, Florida or anyplace else for the top talent in those state, at least not on a consistent basis, and yet they continue to try. They could (probably, although that ship may have sailed at this point as well) compete in the midwest, but they focus elsewhere because of their delusions of grandeur.

The results are evident on the field, in my opinion.

If the ACC rumor is true, hopefully ND's recruiting in the mid-west is damaged even further and they continue their perpetual decent into suck.

This is a good move for the ACC, bad move for ND. They are done as a power in college football.

Good for the ACC. Way to give power to over to a partial-member who will cause chaos to conference standings and schedules for years to come.. I believe this means that Notre Dame will not play UM, MSU, or Purdue any longer.

I believe the scUM/ND series is already slated to end soon.

This is probably the end of the 16-team superconference talk... can't see the B1G doing anything now unless Tejas becomes suddenly available.

And honestly, I see this as possibly opening the door slightly for Ped State to go to the ACC once their sanctions are up.

The ACC going to 15 teams is the de-facto end of 16 team conference talk?

Strongly disagree.

This is just as bad a move for the ACC just as it was for the Big East previously. The conference gains nothing by adding ND Olympic sports and the Irish have shown in the past that their FB scheduling promises are little more than lies.

If nothing else I'm sure there are several threads about it on BWI.

The ACC making this deal is like getting married for sex.

Even if they stop after a few years, it is important now. The ACC can use this as leverage for a better TV deal, one I am sure that they will not need to share with ND, as ND will probably keep it's deal with NBC. NBC probably pays less without a scUM/ND matchup every year. I mean, who wants to see ND vs Clemson or Wake Forest? The ACC will likely survive if everyone goes to 16 teams. The Big East is kaput, even without ND bolting. Hard to see how ND benefits from playing in tobacco country, where they have absolutely no fan base, and virtually no ability to recruit.

There are - and before this move by Ntre Ame, it was just a bunch of mutant subhuman freaks jibber jabbering to each other.

Now, the possibility isn't quite as remote and someone in the Ped State hierarchy might consider it - and if they do leave the BIG, I can completely see them pulling Ntre Ame in with their TV deal and all if the ACC will agree to not have them share the TV revenue....

I'm not saying it's going to happen though....

It won't be happening anytime soon. Penn State CAN'T leave til 2020+ at the earliest because of the assigning of TV rights to the Big 10. And by then, things will be so different who knows what will happen, but I am sure cooler heads will prevail.
