actually, the more I think about it, OSU and Michigan would have to be in same division.

no [strike]one[/strike] true Buckeye would be interested in [strike]an OSU/Michigan[/strike] any Big Ten title game [strike]only 7 days[/strike] after [strike]the OSU/Michigan regular season game[/strike] The Game.

much better

As much as we all love The Game, it's time as relevant could be over. Michigan has been down for several years and as much as scUM fans want to believe they will be right back, it may not happen with the current regime. And nationally the Big Ten has taken such a hit in status that action is needed to raise the level of play. A 12th team and a Conference Championship Game or someone leaving(10 teams) .

I see a lot of similarities between ND and PSU. Both were once proud Independents and as such could schedule who they wanted when they wanted ,helping their status. Both have underachieved for years now. Both are "spoiled children" who think the world should bow down to them. The Big Ten was a rude awakening for State Penn fans and alumni. There has been a lot of bad blood. The State Penn fans think the Big Ten is constantly out to screw them. And they still think they deserve better treatment. They long for the "good old days" of being the Beast of the East. JoPa has been the architect of the Big Ten entrance and has pushed a rivalry with Ohio State as the primary focus. Conversely, Michigan has actually become their biggest rival. A natural rivalry has developed. That's a focus problem with State Penn.(look at the records) JoPa's days are numbered. We know that day is coming and when it does there could very well be a major change in thinking with the PSU alumni. PSU leaving would make sense to them.(they don't think like we think, Buckyle. They still think they're The Beast of the East.)
The Big Ten needs to take some action. (conference championship game/round robin play)State Penn may provide the opportunity.(leaving) Or adding a 12th program like Louisville. Or even Pitt.
Time for change. The Big Ten must move forward.

But as ESPN?s Big Ten blogger Adam Rittenberg explains, Paterno seems to demonstrate just why Penn State is viewed as an outsider in the Big Ten;
His comments somewhat reinforce Penn State?s place as an outsider in the Big Ten, though that?s a debate for another day.
?You know, it?s a conference that?s dominated by a couple of people,? Paterno said. ?If I start talking, they?re polite, but they snicker. They don?t know I know they?re snickering, but they?re polite. ?I wish I were younger and going to be around [more] 20 years.?

no one would be interested in an OSU/Michigan Big Ten title game only 7 days after the OSU/Michigan regular season game.

The Game is the top rivalry in all of sports precisely because Ohio State and Michigan are willing to lay it on the line every year and determine their post-season by play what is traditionally their toughest game of the year.

There isn't a logical reason that I can think of to change that.

Now, if we only could get a good SEC team to venture out of their home state and come play up north...

i wouldn't mind adding a 12 team!! the two that come to mind are nebraska and iowa st!! the only different thing i suggest the conf. to do is not split the conf. in a north/south or east/west!! once the regular season is over just have 1 and 2 play for the championship!! you would have had osu/penn st rematch this past year in that format!!

Since JoePa mentioned Rutgers, nj.com weighs in with an article written by "Star-Ledger staff".

They managed to spell Delany's name incorrectly 5 times. :tongue2:

Rutgers in the Big Ten? Not this season, says conference commissioner

Calls for the expansion of the Big Ten conference to 12 teams, most recently raised last week by the iconic Penn St. football coach Joe Paterno, were quelled on Tuesday by the conference's commissioner, Jim Delaney.

In suppressing this uprising yet again, Delaney said that conference expansion is a long, drawn-out process and, citing the Atlantic Coast Conference as an example, argued it might not result in an increased level of competition.

Delaney is certainly correct in thinking that expansion would be a tremendous undertaking for the Big Ten and the Division 1 athletics as a whole. Conference realignment disturbs the harmony of collegiate athletics, causing a ripple effect that unsettles an untold number of schools and conferences by the conclusion of the process. Again, we have to look no further than the ACC's expansion in 2003, which forced a reflexive shift from the Big East and then Conference USA, and resulted in a reorganized athletics landscape.

Conit'd ...

Yes, a generation ago. More than two decades.
At least I admit it's been a while
we went to Notre Dame in '98-ish
other than that, we've headed out west twice for games against Arizona and Arizona St.
The Az St games was originally scheduled as a home and home series, but Katrina screwed that all up.
We've also been to Va Tech back in '02.

Upcoming games scheduled at Washington, West Virgina, and Colorado.

We're just warming up to you, don't go all "notre dame" on us! :tongue2:
ouch!
that one stings a bit.

ND simply does not fit in the Big 10. We are all large, mid-western, land-grant, state institutions given to research (save for Northwestern, who was a founding member of the conference).

Again, I only see Missouri as fitting in.

Texas? Nebraska? Iowa fucking State?

You have got to be kidding me :shake:
