FWIW, from the MrSEC site - claims that the SEC will have a conference call on Sunday to discuss expansion.

MrSEC.com has learned that the Southeastern Conference has indeed called for a special meeting this weekend. The league’s 12 presidents/chancellors are expected to take part in the chat on Sunday.

A source inside one of the league’s 12 member institutions has confirmed to us that the meeting — or conference call — will take place. (We say conference call, because at least one top SEC administrator is expected to be unavailable for a face-to-face meeting this weekend.)

It’s assumed that this meeting will deal with the potential entrance of Texas A&M and/or Florida State into the SEC. It’s also possible that Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech will be mentioned during the discussion.

Whether this will be a temperature-taking session or an opportunity for SEC leaders to make a formal vote remains a mystery.
Per orangebloods
"The House Higher Education Committee has scheduled a hearing to take up the issue of Texas A&M's possible move to the SEC at 2 p.m. on Aug. 16.

But that hearing may come too late to stop the Aggies from bolting the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference. The Texas A&M Board of Regents has posted a meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 15, to discuss "conference affiliation."

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Fiu speculates on future alignment:

SEC: adds aTm and FSU

PAC: adds Okla/Okla St/TTech/Kansas

B1G: adds Mizzou/Md/Rutgers/Syr

ACC: adds USF and UCF to replace FSU/Md

Big East: adds E Carolina (and already scheduled TCU), loses Syr/Rutgers/USF

Big XII: adds Houston, Colorado State, Rice, Southern Miss, SMU, Tulsa, and UTEP to replace Texas/Okla/OKla St/Texas/Mizzou/TTech/aTm (Ouch)

Independents: ND, Texas, BYU, Army, Navy

Comments - perhaps he's been reading this thread. I don't know why the SEC would stay at 14 with the PAC and B1G at 16, I see them also going to 16. And he doesn't talk about how the four 16-team conferences could form a playoff system able to shut out Texas and ND if they're independents.

and those are prob the worse 4 teams the Big10 could add as well, I can see maybe 2 of them, but all 4, god I hope not, we'd be the only conf to get worse by adding teams

Since I've recently voiced my opinion on the usual suspects I withheld from saying anything regarding them. :)

The University of Texas sent out the following release in response to reports that Texas A&M is headed to the Southeastern Conference:

"At this point we do not know if Texas A&M is leaving the Big 12. All we know is what we read and hear in the media. We are actively looking at every possible option we have and have been talking to other Big 12 schools. We are strong supporters and members of the Big 12. We'd be disappointed if Texas A&M leaves but, if they do, we wish them well."

The Big Ten needs to make every effort to get Texas..even if it means biting the bullet to let Oklahoma come along with them. We can't afford to get left behind here. If we gobbled up both of them the football tradition in our league would be unparalleled.
