He played TE because he was the best TE on the team. Didn't need him as much at QB as at TE.

There are a couple other Roethlisberger threads on here...but I'll go ahead and say something on here too.
First of all. Ben wasn't a tight end in high school, he played reciever and he was a pretty darn good one.
He was placed at QB when Coach Hite decided to install a spread offense. In the summer of 1999 he sent the team to a 7-on-7 camp that Walt Harris ran in Pittsburgh. Findlay won the *** le and THAT was the moment that Hite recognized how truly special Ben was.
People make it sound like Hite played his son over Ben despite him being a better player when, in reality Findlay's offense wasn't geared for a high-octane passing attack until Ben became a senior. Ben and Mike Iriti were an AWESOME pair of recievers but the emergance of Bloomfield and Baxter made a 3 and 4 reciever set much more viable the next year. The coach just wanted to get ALL the best players on the field. He could play his son at QB and Ben at WR, but not vice versa.
I think you are correct in your assessment that everyone is tired of hearing about it. Especially those of us who know the situation and hear people in the media play it up as blatant favoritism.
