Best Upload method .wmv files

sandgk

Watson, Crick & A Twist
Uploading .wmv files. Trying to get a few files uploaded and available in my web space.
Thought I would use a couiple of the teaser.wmv files as tests.
Uploaded one to the following address.
http://users.3z.net/~sandgk/media/tresstease2.wmv
On trying to download this by simple double clicking all I get is a window full of text.

This happens whether the upload was done ASCII, Binary or Auto.

Also, on trying to download by right clicking the damned thing shows up as a Text file, without the .wmv extension.

Is this a problem at the server end? Or something I can solve by uploading in a different fashion (say using a different FTP client, currently using SmartFTP).

Your browser must not be set to play a wmv file with media player. It's probably trying to open it in Word, Notepad, etc. You need to associate the wmv file extension with media player. It plays fine for me.
Nope -- that's not the problem. Wish it were that easy.
I can download the original files from coachtressel.com just fine - never a problem. Just as I can download .wmv files and initiate a session in Windows Media Player for many other video files.
Its the ones I uploaded that seem to have lost the file association.

Did you try the sandgk hosted file? It will prompt for saving as a text file when you right click on the URL.
