Has to be Holy Buckeye.

I'm fortunate enough to have been in the crowd for three of those passes--Troy to Gonzo, Troy to Robo, and Miller to Smith. While I think Troy to Gonzo was the most athletic play (on this note, a lot of people credit Gonzo, but I've always thought that the way Troy eluded the LB was at least as athletic--there are maybe 1 or 2 QBs I've ever seen play that can do what he did on that play to make the LB miss), I honestly think OSU has a better shot at winning that game even if that play doesn't happen than if Miller to Devin doesn't happen. The '05 scUM play was on first down, with 47 or so seconds left. The play last weekend, had it not been completed, would've left OSU with 20 seconds to go from the 40. Maybe we get into field goal range and maybe Drew makes a long one. But even then we go into OT with a UW team which has all the momentum. In short, I think OSU loses this past weekend if that play doesn't happen. So of the ones I've seen live I go with that. The PSU game the Buckeyes were obviously going to win, IMO, whether Smith to Robo happens or not.

I watched the first two and then prematurely ejaculated.....again. I'm sorry but I'll have to get back to this in a half hour or so...

Seriously though, I didn't ejaculate until I watched all of them.

Acknowledging that LJB explicitly told everyone to judge this by whatever criteria they want...

and

Acknowledging that I took "Best Miracle Catch" literally... (imaginge that)

and

Acknowledging that the board at large has tacitly decided to make this a poll on "Best Miracle Pass Play":

I would like to change my vote.

Holy Buckeye - and it's not close

Got to be Holy Buckeye because of two things IMHO:

1. What that game meant to our season...without a win there we don't go to the National Championship game.

2. It was 4th down and to throw it there was just beyond ballsey!

No offense to the players and teams involved, but options 3 through 6 shouldn't even be in the poll. Just my IMO.

Voted HB.
Well, a poll with only two options is kind of boring, hence options 3 through 6.

Troy to Robo: This play won Troy the Heisman, so for that reason alone it is important. Also, it is the most athletic play by the quarterback, as Troy eludes a heavy rush and then throws an absolute laser beam 55 yards.

Pryor to Ballard: This was Ohio State's first Rose Bowl victory since 1997, and at the time, the Buckeyes were on a three-game losing streak in BCS bowls and a five-game losing streak against premier non-conference opponents. If you remember, Ohio State was becoming a national joke for being able to beat up on the patsies of the Big Ten, and then getting crushed by the likes of Florida, LSU, USC, and Texas. Most national pundits predicted a 30-point win for Oregon. This play locked up the Buckeye victory and changed the national perception.

Miller to Smith: As others have said, this game was not very important, and the pass itself was no thing of beauty, but if it turns out to be Miller's "coming of age" moment and the Buckeyes go on to achieve great things during the next three seasons, then in retrospect it will have been a huge play.

DaddyBigBucks -- time may have embellished my memory of the Lanese catch but it is the only catch I can remember where the receiver was parallel to the ground, stretching for the ball. Truely a great individual effort -- not a game winning catch and one that most "kids" are not even aware of it but one that should be immortalized with a huge picture somewhere in the WHAC for every Buckeye and Buckeye recruit to see.

...and in the opposite direction from that which he'd been running a millisecond earlier

Terry Glenn had one of those spectacular diving catches. I forget the opponent (maybe PSU?) but the catch was remarkable, especially considering he dislocated his shoulder that play.

Cris Carter's one-handed catch against BYU in the '85 Citrus Bowl would need to be included in there too.

Agreed. The intent was not to bash those choices. They were all great plays. I always seem to forget how good the throw against PSU was, I always remember the scramble, but every time I rewatch it after not seeing it for a year or so, I say 'I don't remember the window being THAT small!' Another reason that we are so spoiled - those great plays account for less than 10% of the vote combined.

Do you have a poll to support your claims regarding the correlation between number of choices and excitement? If so, how many options does it have?

Nobody has mentioned this yet? Cris's 1-hand catch at the 18-second mark?

Oh, sure - While I'm going to get the youtube, Dryden mentions it.

Looking at the recruiting forum, it may have helped build a recruiting class or two as well.
